For anyone that cares the RedBull Flugtag is today at North Ave beach, oughta be a hoot.
It was rediculously packed. Was there for about an hour and a half then went to Tavern on Rush where I spotted Tony Tag a few times..
Yup, he likes to drive up and down Rush St, and also 'The Mag Mile'. Was Sharon with him.....I doubt it?
Totally agree. This was so the wrong place to have this event: There was maybe a 150 yard stretch of "beach" where one could actually see the action. They said they had about 60,000 spectators, so you can imagine what kind of chaos this was. I changed my viewing spots a few times but never was really happy. The best spot was crouched underneath some shrubbery. I was thinking to myself I have been to F1 races with twice the people and felt a LOT more comfortable. They need to move this to a different place and sell tickets for raised stands. I guess Noel watched it from his boat? That's the only way to do this in style.
Hey, I walked past the Red Bull thingy yesterday too! When are we finally going to meet? I am now living in Chicago it would be great to hook up with the Fchat people some time soon. It's time to put faces to the names! Andrea

What's also a bit of a turn off is the slow going pace: Part of it is to "make a show" and part of it is to clear the water of all the debris, but to the audience it isn't very much fun to watch these amateurs do "their dance" on the ramp. Very corny. They launch about one group/vehicle every ten minutes. That's 30 seconds of action and 9.5 minutes of waiting in an uncomfortable position.
We might have been only feet apart: I was under the shrubnell near the portapotties. Most uncomfortable, but at least a partial view.
That's what I wondered about: how long does it take to clear all the crap out of the water? Considered going and glad I didn't. I just think it's one of those events where one person's hilarity isn't necessary as funny to 60,000 onlookers.
On Sunday, I and eight friends went kayaking on Lake Michigan, from Diversy to Navy Pier. We picked up several pieces of flotsam - mostly painted styrofoam - some as big as 2' x 3'. I wonder how the Red Bull cleanup crews could have missed 'em. We also saw a volleyball game sporting a Tifosi flag (inset). Image Unavailable, Please Login
Well, it has become a bit of a cultural phenomenon and so I figured I have to see one at least once. Done. Got the pics. Moved on.
I'm still blown away by how popular the event was. I thought it was OK, wasn't a bad way to kill an hour on a nice Saturday afternoon, but I wouldn't go out of my way to see it again. I enjoyed sitting at Tavern for four hours much better
