So, Has anyone been taking quarter mile runs in thier 355 and say on the third run cramed it into first instead of third while at redline+ and popping the clutch back out hard?

Well, the rear wheels lock up and start hopping until you mash the clutch back in, whip it to third and hammer down to finish the run.

The gear box seems absolutely no worse for wear, My ego on the other hand is utterly crushed.

:) it happens. at least you are out driving it hard, which is better than garage queens. lesson learned, they aren't fragile like most cars. Ferraris can take a pretty good beating.

A guy who has his 355 serviced at my mechanic's shop did that during a highway on ramp
street race. I guess he broke something in the tranny, but turned out to be a relatively easy fix. I remember being told it could have done some serious damage if you did it just right, or wrong rather...

I think the serious track guys have a 1st/reverse lockout tab that folds down over that
portion of the gate so you can't go into first or reverse. Pretty cool! You might want to look into it if you drag a lot.

Has to be the mainshaft from the back of the motor to the flywheel for it to be an easy fix.

Don't think it was the mainshaft. I saw the broken part after the tranny was pulled, and it was a small finger-lookin' thing IIRC. Maybe I misspoke when I said "easy fix", but it wasn't terribly expensive. :)
