I had the typical second gear stubbornness until I changed to redline 75w90ns , I just got back from a test drive and that stuff is amazing, it Literally shifts like butter, not even a slight hesitation or sound going into second, I feel like I have new tranny. I was skeptical that a gear oil could make such a big difference but now I’m sold.
Best $50 that you can put into your Ferrari.

Awesome, the shop I take my car to put Redline 75W90 in and I still have the
2nd gear issue, as well as the transmission feeling "notchy" every once in a while even when warm. I talked to them at the time about the 75W90NS instead and they said they have never had a problem with the 75W90 in a car with synchro...Next time it goes in I am going to have it changed...In fact
it may be going in soon..... See my other post

From what I hear, it's the "NS" that makes the difference.

I agree, but my mechanic does not, so I will have it changed when I take the car back in...which may be soon....as per my other post

The 75W90 is a hypoid gear oil intended for limited slip differentials. The hypoid modifiers don't work well with synchos in a transmission (they are actually too slippery). You need the 75W90NS, which is designed for synchromesh transmissions. While we have a transaxle in these cars, and it does have slip limiting rings, your first concern is the synchros. I've heard of some guys putting in one quart of 75W90 and the rest NS, but IMHO, I'd start with all NS and then ONLY if I got some "graunching" from the differential in tight turns would I drain off a little and add some of the 75W90 to quiet the LSD. That's what I did in my '84 Mondial QV years ago and it worked great with all NS, even the LSD.

I also bought a pint of limited slip additive, in case I need it, but so far it's perfect without any.

For my 550 Redline 75W90 was enough to solve the 2nd gear problem. For the 360 Spider it improved a bit but under full throttle shifts, it still would not go into 2nd quickly enough. So I used 2 liter 75W90NS mixed with 1 liter 75W90. Now all is well.

I'll never use Shell gearbox oil again.
