I know we've had several discussions going lately about gear oils for the transmissions/transaxles in the 308/328/Mondial cars. But I'm a bit confused at this point. Normally, I would use the Redline 75W90NS in a transmission (I have it in my Jags, 4 spd, full syncho boxes). It does not contain the hypoid modifiers for limited slip differentials, and works well in full sychromesh transmissions. The Redline 75W90 gear oil DOES have the hypoid modifiers for the limited slip diffs. Redline says the 75W90 can be used in some transmissions and transaxles, but seems to suggest the use of NS instead.

So, which gets used in a Mondial QV transmission (or 308/328 for that matter)? I'd normally go with 75W90NS if I was treating it just as a transmission. But, since it's more of a transaxle (as I understand that term), do we need the hypoid modifiers?

    Someone, please explain.

I just ordered the NS fluid for my 328. If I notice noise from the rear, I will add the slip modifier seperatly.
I figured it is easier to add the friction modifier than change the fluid a second time. Slip modifier, if needed will be "titrated" into the diff until the chatter is eliminated.

308/328 does not have hypoid gears so it does not even need hypoid lubricant. Redline MTL works great in them and provides the best shifting of any of the Redline products. 75/90 or 75/90NS work great as well.

The techs at Redline specifically recommend 75/90NS for the 308/328 cars.
