LOOKING FOR RECOMENDATIONS & REFERALS ON REFINISHING 4 CROMODORA 15X7.5 WHEELS ? WEST COAST PREFERED~ 1 WHEEL NEEDS CURB RASH WORK, MAY BUY ANOTHER AND USE IT AS A SPARE AFTER REPAIR.
There is a good thread on here with regard to this topic, Be very carefull that they prepare the wheels carefully as the are a magnesium alloy and need a special undercoat/treatment or the paint will react with the alloy and they will look like crap in a very short time. Make sure the wheel reconditioner gives you a lengthy warranty on workmanship ie 6+ months.
There's a Thread down in Vintage right now discussing the very subject.. Tom S. has posted the Tech Bulletin on painting there!
Welcome PGL, Long story short you really want to pay a traditional Body Shop to delicately hand sand/repair dings and reshoot them. Personally, I repair dings with a poly filler to avoid welding on them..... A modern Wheels America etc. will over strip them and you'll have corrosion problems as the result.. Powdercoating is all the rage but in Vintage Napolis points out this overheats them and can cause very real safety issues! HTH....
PGL- All previous posters right on. So, if you want it done correctly, invest a little in shipping and try the most experienced shop in the US with both aluminum and magnesium wheels. Ye Olde Wheel Shop 6363 Washington Blvd. Elkridge, MD 21227 410-796-8400 800-526-8260 Taz Terry Phillips
I just called that number and the business seems to be closed. Anyone know a reliable shop with magnesium wheel experience that can refresh the paint on a set of 1977 308 cromodora wheels? San Francisco Bay Area would be best.
Well seriously, you’ve got to give him credit for using the search function and not blind posting a question with out seeing what is already here. Wish more people did this.
You might call Riteway Wire & Wheel in Walnut Creek and talk to Jose Cruz. He may be able to help you.
