    Hi Everyone,
The guys from Italy can perhaps confirm this , but it is now compulsory to carry a reflective jacket in the car when driving on the motorway in Italy. If you breakdown and need to leave the car you must wear this jacket.
This will aslo become law soon in the rest of the EU.

For the guys going to Portofino next week Wolfgang, Trevi, Didier, Uli and Andrea, they are available in motorway service stations for about 6 or 7 euro's

I don't think they'll throw you in jail for not having one, but travelling in a convoy of Fcars, the chances of beeing stopped are higher and even if its only 20 or 40 Euros, any fine is still a pain in the arse.

    Cheers
    Simon

P.S. I am sooooo looking forward to this week away.
See you in the bar in Bad Ragaz Trevi and Wolfgang....

    It's a good idea actually.

I have more than once come upon an accident scene before the authorities, and by grabbing my construction hardhat, orange traffic vest and orange traffic flag, been able to redirect the traffic flow and free up one more Emergency Medical Techincian to take care of the injured or at least make THEM a little safer.

The cops always appreciate a little help in times like that.

    Hi Speedy
Just out of curiosity are you required to carry anything in the USA? Most european countries require a red warning triangle and first aid kit. I think the UK is one of the few countries that don't require anything.

    Cheers

    Hi!!

Sounds like you have a BIG party brewing! :)

No, it's not a requirement here. Just years of experience of life I suppose.
(Eagle Scout BSA, "Help other people at all times... good turn daily.. etc.")

I have fire extinguisher, tools, the traffic vest (It's Safety Orange mesh actually and packs quite small, has the 3M Scotchbrite TM reflective stripes), and all that kit in the boot, with my tools.

I got Garrett Wade tool catalog recently with a REALLY NIFTY Fireman's Demo
Axe in it. I want THAT for my Bday Monday 5/17. It's chrome head on a fibreglass shaft, you could do heavy damage with it!

I jumped in the other day on the way back from lunch on a wreck with an older man bleeding badly in a Lincoln Continental. Smashed pretty bad.
I held pressure on the artery 'till the real Fireman EMTs showed up.

Then disappeared, headed West into the sunset, like the western heroes do..... "Who was that guy?....I dunno, but he left this silver bullet....." LOL!

Speedy, So that makes you a super hero in a 308...a bit like a cross between Superman and Magnum...Dom Deloise's character in cannon ball.

    Nice one :D

    See ya
    Simon

Wolfgang....don't forget we are going to Italy...although it's now law to carry an orange jacket, the fashion police WILL arrest him if seen driving a green open ferrari and wearing orange....Make sure he puts the top up when we drive past Milan ;)

Just a reminder. In order to fe fully ok with the law, you must have the jacket inside the car, not in the boot!
And anyway not having the jacket is not an offence. The offence is staying outside the car without the jacket.

    Ciao

    Eugenio

Welcome to the club. In Spain that jacket in bright green or bright orange is mandatory since past January, but everywhere, not just in the highways.

And I acctually think is a good idea!

Better that than becoming garbage in the road side :)

Making apology of some stereotypes... you have to put things in their context, think where do Italians and Spaniards drive and stop!!! Never in the right lane!
