Anyone have experience with a particular hand-held leak detector? The prices seem to be reasonable enough now so that a DIY'er should have one. Any experiences or recommendations on the ones you can find on ebay (new) for between $30 and $130?

I have only used the Snap-on unit. It is a "sniffer" type and has been very effective. Don't know about others but I assume that they are pretty much the same. My 2 cents

I have TIF ZX1 or Inficon.....both are on ebay regulary. Use them in an enclosed area (garage) where they won't be impacted by wind etc. Make certain the battery is good and that it comes with the charger.......

This spring I used a $25 dollar kit I found at Advanced Auto. The kit contained the green dye, a small UV pen and some yellow goggles. It worked fine. I was able to find one small and one large leak, replace the o-rings and it has been good through the summer. Clean all the joints well and follow the instructions then look for leaks.
