Are any of the Super Ferrari Cars like the 288GTO, F40, F50, Enzo able to be registered and driven on the street in Australia or you only allowed to have the common variety of Ferrari's like the 355, 360 etc etc.

    Howdy poyta,

Somewhere in an old thread I read that the F40, F50, Enzo etc need to be right hand drive converted in order to be registered for road use. Original left hand drives can be driven on the track, but you can also get a club license to let you use them on the road. I'm not sure on the particulars of that.

If the LHD car is prior 1969, it can be driven on the road provided you put a sign the size of a mardi gras banner on the back saying it's LHD. (Except in WA, where you can do this if the car is 15+ years old)

The other folks on this board are certainly more qualified to answer F questions though, I'm just repeating what I read. Hope it helps :)

Strasse has pretty much nailed it. It's the 'common' variety on the streets of Aus only! :(

Whereabouts in Adelaide are you, Peter?

Hi, i'm from Adelaide also. You know i hear that a guy in North Adelaide has 5 Ferraris and one of them being an F40. Have you heard of that. And also if your in the North adelaide area on weekend mornings there is a Lambo Murcielago going around.

    Peter that surname....is That Polish?

I live at Athol Park, which is pretty close to Port Adelaide. I guess any suburb in Adelaide is close to anything since its so small

Yeh its Polish. Actually I think if you trace it back its originally a Russian name cause most polish names end with "ski" .

So if I import an F40 from England where Im guessing they are RHD then I can go down to the local SA registration department and register it no problem?

Any idea who that guy in North Adelaide is with the multiple Fcars?

I saw a Lambo Murcielago located in Adelaide for sale on Yahoo cars a few weeks back. I wonder if it's the same one you saw. There was also a Gallardo and a Murcielago at the recent Adelaide Motor Show.

I live in Stonyfell (also have a house in Rose Park), and I'm pretty sure there is an owner 10 minutes walking distance from here who has a newly-bought F355 Berlinetta, rosso corsa. I spoke to the dealer (Prestige Formula) who sold it to him a couple of weeks ago.

Did anyone go to the AMG show at Chateau Moteur last weekend?

You guess wrong - all F40's were LHD originally.
I believe a couple were converted though.

Not sure who the guy is that owns all the Ferrari. I was introduced to his son about 2 years ago while i was drinking at the Oxford. We got onto the topic of Ferrari and he told about what he his dad owns. A guy that worked for me is best friends with his son. Got some good photos from the motor show if your interrested.

Did go to the AMG Show last weekend James, i don't mind those Mercs at all. While you were there James, did you see the White Porsche GTR R3 in the window, how hot was that.

I drop in Prestige at least once a month, they got that black testarossa at the moment which looks good. I have to admit those guys aren't bad. I go there in a tracksuit looking like the biggest bum and they know very well that i'm not going to buy a car but they still take time to have a chat about Ferrari's.

I see a few Ferrari's in Adelaide Guys, do you ? That Lambo Murcielago that you saw on Yahoo cars, i saw it also. I think that belongs to the man who owns Leader Computers here in Adelaide in Franklin street.

How old is his son? Any idea what he does? Also, what are the other 3 Fcars besides the F40?

I loved the S55 AMG they had. Saw quite alot of AMG cars when I was in Los Angeles and London a few months ago.

Also had a nice chat with one of the dealers. Told him about when I took a tour of the Mercedes factory in Stuttgart after buying my E-class. He said none of the dealers had been, but they are all longing to go!

Yes, that GT3 RS is awesome. They also have a standard GT3 in there. From visual inspection, the two cars look almost the same.

The last time I went they had 3 360s in for service. Some guy who I overheard is in the construction business was taking a 328 for a test drive. Personally I liked the look of that Rosso Corsa / tan F355 Berlinetta sitting in there. I think one of the nicest looking Ferraris and colour combos ever made! Too bad 355's go for the AUD $200k - 300k range when you can buy them in the US for less than USD $100k!! :(

Also while there, I enquired about the Ferrari Club of S.A. and the dealer gave me the phone number of the person who runs it. Have yet to contact him, but when I do, I'll ask about when the next track day will be held (up at Mallala).

Occasionly. Been seeing more as of late. Here are my recent sightings:

rosso corsa 348tb in the CBD twice mid last year with the number plate SUGA D.

rosso corsa F355 Berlinetta in the CBD late last year on Grenfell St.

grigio titanio 360 Modena parked right out the front of my workplace on Hindley St. beginning of this year. Also saw the same car on Hindley St. a few days later. It has some nasty scrapes on the left-hand side.

rosso corsa 328 GTS cruising around Burnside early this year.

And I've seen the rosso corsa F355 Berlinetta that the guy just near here bought recently out and about a few times.

Leader eh? Didn't know they were doing so well. The computer business is pretty tough here in little Adelaide (did you know that Adelaide has the highest number of computer stores per capita in Australia?). Most open up and close down again within 1 - 2 years. If they last longer than that, then it's a sign that they're a really standout company which good prospects!

Not too many around, has anyone seen the 308GT4 going around the city with the P plates? Anyone know the story - I never saw the driver so Im not sure if they are indeed under 19 or if they just lost their license.

Last year when I still had my TurboMr2 I raced some guy in something that looked like a Ferrar 308 with a targa top but he had 6 round rear tail lights instead of the usual 4. Didn's see them for long cause I eventually shot right past him, in fact I beat him so easily that for a second I though it may have been a replica.

Hi. That is your white GT3 RS in the front window of Chateau motors !!! What is it doing there? Tim that car is so hot. Once i saw it, i took my girlfriend there to see it and then 2 of my mates on another night to see it. I have been a Ferrari man all my life, but now and then some Porsches take my fancy and that one has really impressed me. I actually went in Chateau 2 saturdays ago to see and i'm so in love with it. Congratulations.

    Nick,

Well I've been a Pcar man all my life. I had a Mk1 GT3 for the past four years and loved it. The RS was ordered back in January 2002 when I heard rumours of it. Now its arrived, and I've paid for it, but the timing is all wrong, so until I sell it, or decide to keep it, it's staying at Chateau. Damn shame. It's been owned, registered and insured for a week, and I've never driven it. Bugger.

your killing me....shall i keep it or sell it AAARRRRHHHH!!!!..... what a decisions to make. So your ordered it Jan 02 and it just got delivered now in 2004.... why so long. I was going to ask you if you have that kind of money why would you choose a porsche over a ferrari or lambo etc, but i guess its exactly what you said your either a porsche man or ferrari or lambo man. I'm sure that could easily be sold in sydney or melb. If they are rare and by the sounds of it there may only be a few of them in Australia i would assume there would be a buyer out there. Problem is Tim, if you do take it out for a drive i think you will fall in love and not sell it, its safer there for people like me to stare at and for you not to make rash decisions that you may regret. On the other side of the coin tim, you most likely deserve it so reward yourself, you get one shot at life, its not a dress rehersal so enjoy and have fun.

If you ever need someone to wash it....... let me know.

that's where i live... at the Oxford, then i go to this place round the corner to like sleep and stuff. :)

i haven't seen many of late, a 348 the other day down waymouth st, a sweet black 360 on grenfell with an indian dude in it, and a 246GT replica.

i've seen that SUGA D a couple times, and if you spend enough time around north adelaide there's normally something decent passing through. not so much lately for some reason though. used to be you could go to the Oxford pub junction and there'd be at least 4 cars within view werth checking out, usually a porsche GT2/3, a silver NSX parked outside Scuzzi, a couple nice mercs or old muscle cars, or even this big green rolls.

seen a couple 355's around tynte and archer street fairly regularly, and a testarossa coming out of a place on wellington square. then there's another black 355 spyder that i used to see all the time on weekends, must have lived down the road from me, but i haven't seen that one for 6 months or more... nearly puked on it once, was walking down ward st with a massive hangover, bent over to get my breath, started purging and just then the 355 screamed off from the lights, i naturally looked up and projected some chunder right next to the wheels as it went by. would have been a great sight for the dudes driving it. :(

as for lambo, i've seen 3 in the last few years. a sweet black diablo that just plain rumbled, a smurf-blue... something, don't even remember. and an old classic teardrop shaped one that i don't even recognize.

whats with the picture of the cat? i could guess what your thinking there. The oxford is a cool, i just live down the road also, well sort of, in Wakefield st. Never forget the time i was driving to work down Marion Rd and i saw a guy taking his Red 360 through a car wash. I was so tempted to pull over and hit him over the head with an umbrella. what an idiot. the guy is most likely loaded to the eye ball and just sees his Ferrari 360 like i see my commodore.

    she purrs. :)

yeah, a few months back i saw some dude in a red 360 taking it through the BP car wash on er, henley beach road or something, near where it joins marion road. it was like 40 degrees that day, my little Xone9 was overheating, and at least half the reason i wanted to be in his car was coz it would have a good air-con. :(

hey, i noticed your "other cars" include public transport. :D i got a few links that might be of interest, some stuff i'm werking on.
    custom timetable thing
    online timetables
    ashBD (online mapping for tightwads)

it doesn't all werk as it's snippets out of other stuff i'm doing, and i've done loads of extra stuff on these and will be updating them in the next coupla weaks. some of the data might be a bit outdated, but feel free to play around. i won't explain them here, will upload help files later, but you should be able to figger 'em out.

    have fun.

Nope, never was an F50GT in Sydney. S/N 3 lived in Richmond Victoria for a year or so; but is now in an English dealer looking for a new home.
