Some feedback from my experience: Today, my Regitar voltage regulator failed, after 3.5 years and 8k miles. Aeroengineman had a Regitar VR fail out of the box. I am not impressed with the quality of these parts. I reinstalled the original Nippondenso voltage regulator (with 50k miles of use) and the light went back out, and car is running normally.

How are they working for the rest of you?

Mine failed out of the box also and went back to the stock parts and so far no problem.

Does Nippondenso sell parts, or do they only manufacture/sell whole alternators?

I have rebuilt twice with Regitar parts, at about 7-8k mile marks. Thought it was heat-related from unshielded headers....

BTW, the point of my post, is the "Alternator rebuild thread" for Nippondenso alternators lead us to believe the Regitar parts were superior to oem. I now believe that is not the case.

Interesting, I have a regitar reg. sitting here ( I assume that most people want the little bump in volts it provides) - I am however reluctant to install it since the ND reg. is probably the most reliable unit I have ever experienced in any car - 20+ year old hondas are still running on the original ND alternators with 300K of daily driving...

Scott, no I have oem shielded exhaust manifolds (rebuilt by QV London). I have had no previous problems with my alternator, and did the "upgrade" as it seemed a good idea at the time.

Thanks, Dave. Sorry for my memory lapse and thanks again for the information.

This kinda' sucks doesn't it? :( But at least it gives an option for those with a Nippondenso alternator.

Okay, in Ernies thread he recommends the use of the USI regulator:

Here is the USI part number:

    regulator - #00632, 71-30003/SCP

    Nice info.

As for the USI regulator, I still have it in my alternator, and to date it's still working just fine. Maybe you should give it a try and see how it does for you.

Well the Regitar worked fine too...for about 8 or 9k...then failed. And now this thread appears to confirm that they often fail at that point. I don't think we have enough user feedback on the USI for me to switch when my oem is still working fine. But once we have some firmer data points on one particular brand, I would like to pick up one.

OK, so right off the top I would pick only two of those.

    HONDA

    TOYOTA.

    That is it.

I would imagine that if you can get them, they are simply relabled Nippondenso parts, since the alternators they use are ND alternators...pretty much what all Japanese makers use.

Basically every Toyota on the planet...

I'd go with this - Also, the REG from Toyota is $150, just think how good the $25 regitar could possibly be.

I can confirm the proper replacement voltage regulator from Wagner is W085-114 from their website. It cross references to the Nippondenso part number 126000-1500. And in the application list mentions it fits on "Ferrari". ;)

Big question is whether the Wagner part is any good or not.

What is confusing with many of the cross references as I posted above is they show many supposed cross references that don't make any real sense. Nor do they cross to the factory part...though they do cross to the Regitar and Transpo part numbers...but are those truly equivalent?

I think it is safest to ONLY use a part that is shown to directly cross reference to the factory nippondenso 126000-1500 only.

This is the catalog I used to look up the part numbers: http://www.wagneralt.com/catalog/books/W2008-08.pdf

Hi everyone. Thank you for all the information and instructions on rebuilding this alternator. I have spent a couple days reading through all the forums for this subject. I know this threat started several years ago, so does anyone have an update of where I can get replacement parts? I tried calling my local alternator shop and they just don't sell the parts. Can someone recommend? I am in Southern California or website would be great.

Looks like I need a regulator, rectifier and perhaps bushing.

    Thank you!
