Are there any good hints on getting the rear glass back in? Searched but could find nothing.
The biggest tip I can offer is find someone who has done it before and pay them to do it. Also don't be around when it is getting installed. Putting the rear glass in requires bending it quite a lot and it is really hard on the nerves. Some things are better left un-seen.
Tony, if your nerves are up to it, please take plenty of photos and share with comment. I have read closey the various and limited FChat comments on this exercise, but never really got a good fealling of how to do it. At least it's a nice warm day to squeeze all the glass flexibility you can. Hope it goes well. Kevin
Lots of soapy water works too , as in washing up liquid and, some water. Don't make it to slippery though...... Does anyone know of a case where the glass broke? is the rear window trim available?
Well what can I say, what a anti climax. Got to the BodyShop in Barking London at 7am. We set the glass on a stand and I went to make the guys a coffee, no milk so popped up the shops and by the time I come back it was in and one grinning screen fitter. By my reckoning it took approx. 12 mins. Front screen was installed in approx. same time. Phew what a relief. Didn't have time to take a photo either!! Tony
Great to hear that it went well for you Tony. It is not that installing the glass is a long and terrible job. In fact the installation is pretty fast however those few moments of installation is nail biting for the un-initiated but the pros make it look easy.
I printed out all of the advice found on this forum, gave it to the glass installer and did not watch. Pretty soon he called to say it was done! Hardest part was getting the chrome trim in he said. BTW he used shaving cream (maybe gel?) in a tube for the lubricant.
