I looked at it again. My first reaction, beside the wheels being a bad choice, was that there should be chrome side view mirrors. Upon going back and looking again. It has chtome bumpers !!!! No wonder I felt it should have chrome side view mirrors. This is a car that some will order. I think the chrome work around the headlights are a little off too. That chrome needs to be made just a tad less significant.
Have you attended Ascott or Goodwood? Car park pic-nic is a British tradition, and you would be lucky if you could find a seat available, unless you bring one. As for spreading a blanket, getting on the grass is not becoming for a lady or a gentleman dressed for those occasions.
Have been numerous times. Plenty of space, lots of people doing exactly that and enjoying Veuve Clicquot, and if ladies know how to sit properly it's not a problem.
I still like these pic-nic seats on the Sportback; not many cars have that. At my age, you avoid getting on the grass anyway; I always have a proper seat.
My comment was negative on this reinvention not the original. The original is a true classic these cars with retro cues that keep popping up just state lazy, uninspired design to me. Why do you want a new car too look like an old car?!?
To be honest, I don't like the style of most modern cars, but I wouldn't buy a classic. They are overpriced, expensive to maintain and they lack the safety features I want. So a car with 60s style on a modern chassis is a good compromise for me. It's a matter of choice.
Definitely is a matter of choice and people vote with their wallet and most people like it...albeit briefly as seen with thunderbirds, pt cruisers, etc. The issue I have is it is a rehash like the new Camero that gets stale prematurely compared to a fresh new look. It would be a travesty if Chevrolet tried to make a new corvette look like a 60s era car and like wise if Ferrari, Maserati, or Aston did the same.
I don't think you would find any of those appealing either. There is a growing market here in Britain and on the continent for modern replicas of vintage and classic cars. Most of the buyers have drifted away from sport cars, but want something exclusive, hand crafted and special. Performance isn't an issue; or they have grown out of it, or they want to hold on to their driving license! Style is however most important. William, You are mis-guided. 90 % of the companies you have posted links to, build their cars on up to 80 year old chassis and running gear, the others are mostly 1950's chassis. There's nothing modern about that as the bodies are constructed from wood and aluminium following traditional methods. I have visited 3 out of your 6 listed companies, and can assure you that they are old school and nothing to do with or in anyway a comparison to the hideous jaguar DB5
Yes, they build vintage cars with modern technology. The steel and alloy they use are far superior to period ones, but still made by hands by craftmen. The continuation vintage Bentley use Rolls-Royce 8-cyl tank engine blocks which are painstakingly rebuilt and adjusted with brand new internals. The engines and most components are upgraded, if only to satisfy modern regulations. Most adopt fuel injection to pass emission control. The Alvis engines are built from the ground up, using new castings; same for gearboxes now with syncros, upgraded clutch, etc... Suspensions are often redesigned and brakes can be discs hidden inside large drums, etc... The fact that these vehicles have been built from scratch recently and meet all of today's legal requirement makes them more affordable and less prone to costly problems than the authentic cars they are based on, which are mostly collectors pieces and cost an arm and a leg to maintain. In fact, many true vintage Bentleys have been upgraded now to bring them to the standards of modern replicas at the demand of their owners. Several Bentley owners have fitted repro engine in their car and keep the original safely in their garage! Many people here are attracted by that form of motoring; it is just as glamorous (and costly)as sport car ownership, becoming less pleasant because of speed restriction. Also, you get more public attention cruising with a repro Bentley than with a Ferrari or Lamborghini!!
