The body restoration of my 1983 QV is finally complete. Back to its original Azzurro Metallico from yellow. It's pictured here just before being transported to Autosport Service at Pistoia for a full engine service. Sadly the fan belt snapped when the engine was restarted and it's an unusual size. Somewhere between a late 8 and an early QV. Hopefully Autosport can find one.

I don't get to see the car until tomorrow, I'm stuck at work in the UK at the moment

Looks stunning. Sorry to hear about the belt, but glad it was from the non-timing side of things. I assume it was alternator. I have a UK ‘y’ reg Q.V. so I understand the way ‘8’ pieces find their way into the car. Hope you’re enjoying our snow, safe trip back to the car.

Very nice! Gee, how come US got stuck with the ugly bumpers:confused: I'll take the 5 mph hit for the cleaner lines.

Here's a photo of the car at Pistoia ready for its engine service. It was taken by the driver of the recovery truck.

I still haven't seen the finished car. I made it back to Italy last night but now we are snowed in on top of our hill.

I might even get to drive the car again some time soon, after nearly 3 years!

I think it’s one of the best painted-bumper QVs I’ve ever seen, that colour and the black lower spoiler really looks great. Not like an after thought, or a Lotus.

Thanks for that StuR. I really agonised over the whole body coloured bumper thing. For me, it better shows off the lines of the car and obviously Ferrari thought so because they did the later models that way. But still, it was a difficult decision to move away from the standard colour scheme. In the end I decided that I could always go back to black bumpers later if I felt too guilty.

Nothing to feel guilty about - had plastic / paint technology been better in 82 and Ferrari more forward leaning they’d have done the same! Mine had been painted black (silver car) to try and give a smoother finish - at least that’s all I could think they must have been doing. Subsequently about 70% had fallen off by the time I came along and just too much prep and cost to make good and I don’t think it suits all colours. I have a set of 3.2 bumpers waiting for me to finish all my other projects; but I’m probably going to do a full respray and probably a colour change, or perhaps a wrap. But a lot of other things to do first!!!!

I really like it, but I also love Grigio - except I have a navy interior and would prefer ox-blood or similar. Part of the challenge is I have a couple of 355 carbon challenge seats that I need to recover, and a desire to lighten the car so perhaps do something slightly custom. I guess that’s why the wrap option intrigues me, as I once ran some photoshop of the car two tone and quite liked it. It’s likely to be a keeper, and I am not too worried about a colour change affecting value, as long as it’s done right. Don’t worry - no gold leaf effect chrome vinyl and green wheels.... not yet.

Very nice color! Which area do you live in Italy, Bologna? We will be there in May (Mille Miglia) with my Mondial.
The size of the waterpump belt should not be that difficult to find since you have some slack with the tensioner adjuster, but I am pretty sure that Officina Pistoia can fix it easily :)

Hi MvT, We're in Lucca. The city is completely enclosed by medieval walls wide enough to drive around and the Mille Miglia cars usually do a lap of the walls. This year I'm hoping to park the Mondial on top of the walls along with some other classic cars. I haven't actually arranged anything yet, I wasn't sure that the car would be complete.

Thanks to everyone for your comments.

The car is still at Autosport in Pistoia. They were doing an engine rebuild on a Daytona which jumped the queue over mine. Not that I mind, it was raining here until Easter so I was pleased the car was somewhere warm and dry. They started the engine service on mine last week and its almost done apart from needing 4 new cam-shaft pulleys. Apparently the ones I have fitted are made of a plastic type material which was used because it was light but weakens over time and there is a risk they could shatter causing catastrophic damage to the engine. Sadly, new steel pulleys don't come cheap, about $250 each, and there are four of them. Has anyone heard of this issue?

So the car is nearly finished, just waiting on a delivery of pulleys. Meanwhile they have done a great job on the engine, lots of new hoses and they have cleaned it all up :)

    Mauro

That type of air intake manifold is originally painted in black wrinkle paint, yours is in silver. One of my Mondials has that in red... I'll repaint that back in black in a couple of weeks :)

Mauro your car is very nice thanks for sharing the story.
In the engine bay photo the cloth wrapped houses look suspicious to me.
Are they still safe to use? Just an observation...

Yes, you are right. I'll get the garage to check them. It spoils the look at the very least. Thanks for pointing it out.
