I don't know about the newer SAAB's, but both of mine were high mileage cars by the time I sold them. 235k on one and 200k on the other. The old 2-liter engines were vitually idestructable, however they always had something wrong with other little things; heater controls, seat heater, LIGHTS (all) etc.

I've used 9000's quite a bit, and the hit/miss ratio on those cars being JUNK was not in the favor of the owner.

    Keep the Legacy.

I purchased parts from Armand Verdone SAAB in Phoenix, AZ. The parts were very cheap, about 3-4x cheaper than the local dealership. I don't know if they still go by that name though.

This is a MYTH, Tom. They are every bit as reliable as a Trabant!

    Not true.
Cab drivers in Sweden have three favourite-cars, Saab, Volvo and Mercedes.
Most of the Saab cabs are driven for close to 200k miles, and since most cab drivers can't afford to have the car in the workshop I'd say they're pretty reliable...

Ive never driven a 9-3, but i have driven a 9-5 and I hated it. It was unbelievably awful. Its no wonder why they sell for so much lower than sticker and have awful retail. It was the most unsatisfying car to drive. My moms honda CR-V is more fun to drive and has better steering feel...seriously. Combine the lack of road feel with tepid power and you have a real loser. The interior was also awful and didnt feel quality. It wasnt a 9-5 aero, but i wonder how much difference that could make. Stick with a japanese or german car. those are the only cars i will ever pay for (except maybe a corvette or italian sportscar).

if you look at all the data from repair records in consumer reports and guide, and jd powers data, the saabs are as unreliable as they come....everyone of my friends who have had one has had issues and no one ever bought another....do y0ourself a favor....stay away,

Think about a 2001 S4. The ONLY bad thing about those cars is the back seat is cramped, so the car doesnt fit 5 people comfortably.

I was looking at them last year. From what I could tell the Timing Belt service was the most expensive service. I came across several with high mileage 125k+ I found some very nice used saabs at lower prices than I was expecting. I didn't get one b/c I really didn't want a FWD car, just a personal preferance nothing bad about them.

You should be able to get a '00 at a good price just make sure the T belt gets changed if it hasnt. I don't know if they have interference engines, if they do you dont want that belt breaking.
