Reliability of 360

    I'm sure it may have been discussed before but I am going to ask again. How reliable is your 360. I don't want what people have heard from a friend/uncle/dad/brother/dog, I want personal experience. The thing is, I am hoping to pick one up in the late summer if all goes right but I honestly don't think I would want to drop another 20-25k/year in maintenance cost. I don't even know if it would be a matter of want I don't think I could afford it :D Affording the cost of car is the easy part, I even have my insurance company ready to add it on but I just don't want to be with a car that is a 100k paperweight as I'm waiting for a new transmission. Any input would be appreciated and I thank you :)

    MVP 360 owned by Dusty W. had a problem with the shifter not going into 6th gear and a headlight problem but that occured when trying to realign them. Car has 6,xxx miles on it right now. Both minor problems.

    If you do a search on the forum you will see what type of problems most owners are having. The F1 pump in most models seem to fail randomly. It's not a consistent problem but I've seen it more than a few times. Luckily in the 360 it's a $1,000 part, this is also based on the assumption that the car you get will be F1.

    Expect to get a new clutch every 15k miles, sometimes they may last more or less but it's it's nice to budget one for every 15k miles. A new clutch is $1,490 retail, of course figure labor and a possible new t/o bearing and other things into that price. Coming from the Supra community I'm sure you're also familiar with the carbon/carbon clutches, that's always an option if you want to save money in the long run.

    The rest of the service will consist of the 3 year timing belt change which is $1,500-2,000.

    -Change Both Timing Belts
    -Set Timing Belt Tension (reset tensioners)
    -Check/Set Cam Timing
    -Replace all Accessory Belts
    -Inspect Idler Bearings
    -Change Coolant

    And then the 30k mile major service which is about $3,000-4,500.

    -Change Both Timing Belts
    -Set Timing Belt Tension (reset tensioners)
    -Check/Set Cam Timing
    -Replace all Accessory Belts
    -Replace Both Idler Bearings
    -Change Oil and Filter (incl. cleaning screen)
    -Change Gear Oil (incl. cleaning screen)
    -Change Air Filters
    -Change F1 Pump Fluid (if applicable)
    -Change Brake Fluid
    -Change Coolant
    -Change Spark Plugs
    -Check R134 Pressures
    -Inspect Brakes
    -Inspect Hoses
    -Check Power Steering Fluid
    -Check Alternator
    -Inspect all Lines (fuel, oil, water) and replace if necessary (extra charge for parts)
    -Check Oxygen Sensors
    -Clean Engine Compartment
    -Pressurize Coolant System, check for leaks
    -Inspect CV Boots
    -Inspect Fuse Panels
    -Inspect Tires / Adj. Tire pressure
    -Inspect Water Pump
    -Inspect all Seals
    -Inspect Ignition Wires
    -Inspect all Bulbs, Lights, Electrical Motors
    -Inspect all Suspension Bushings / Connections
    -Inspect all Exhaust Joints / Connections for leaks


    The reason prices on the belt and service vary is because different dealers/independent shops charge different prices, where you are may also make a difference. It seems in more populated Ferrari areas where there is competition, prices may dip lower.

    I can give you more feedback based on the main OEM replacement parts we sell and personal feedback from customers but you asked for personal feedback and above is as far as I can give you without giving other people's experiences.

    Josh, I have driven my 2001 yellow 6 speed 360 w/7500 miles with no issues of any kind. The only trip to the dealer was the oil change. The still drives and behaves as if it were new. I only drive it easy on the street and never track it. Its my second ferrari and my other car was the same. Perhaps the more serviced related cars were tracked?. My local dealer also claims very few issues with the 360 period. FYI, mine is in superb condtion. I might consider selling it this summer if interested. Its 2001 yellow, blk daytona powered seats, badges, calipers, leather interior, grill, battery tender, 6 speed car. no excuses. My car or most other 360 are likley the most reliable ferrari to date. fyi, the 6 speed may avoid more sevice vs the paddles as a rule.

    Thanks Kevin, that doesn't seem so bad. As far as a clutch I don't think I want a carbon/carbon............I already have a tilton going into the viper soon so I want at least 1 sports car that doesn't have a stiff clutch in it :D


    dodgeboy - thanks and I will definitely consider it! It will not be until end of July or August before I'm ready to start thinking about it. I will contact you at that time though and see where you're at :)

    Based on my experience, I say that if you double the highly conservative estimates provided by MVP, you'll be closer to reality. They ALWAYS find additional things wrong, additional things that should be fixed or replaced to keep the stallion 100%, and they tend to cost plenty. Iow, plan for more and, if you're lucky and don't need it, you won't be bitter, you'll have a surplus to depleat elsewhere.

    I got a Modena MY2000. I'v been driving it since Aug the same year. The only major problem I got is the F1 gear. It use to go on N after 15 mins from starting the car. The dealer made me change the clutch twice in 1 year. then he made me change the ECU unit and still I had the same problem. I took it to a friend who owns a Lambo workshop and the problem is gone now!! It did cost me only 1000USD!!

    other than that, I had minor problems here and the there like the sun visor and speakers. Basicly built quality stuff.


    I think u should look for 02 models and up cause most 99-01 got problems with the F1 system.

    Yeah, thats the attitude I usually take with cars. Take the estimate, double it and you'll be closer to the actual cost..........same thing with time getting worked on the car, if the shop says a month, make it 2 :D


    However its mainly if expensive stuff keeps breaking. I'm fine for fixing the car but say if I got an F1(unlikely but if i did) I wouldn't want to be replacing transmissions all the time. I just wanna make sure I'm not gonna be dropping 20k into the car every year :)

    The F1 system is just the gear actuation mechanism. The transmission itself is the same as the manual shifters. Having driven my 360 F1 for over 5 years and piling on over 38k miles, I think it's a fairly reliable car.

    Do things break? Maybe. Repairs expensive? For the most part, No.

    My 04 stick shift Modena had two broken door handles (exterior) in the first month -- the cables poped out of their retainers. Since then -- no problems at all with 14,000 kms. I've been told the car continuously evolved (how much I don't know) and later models are tighter and more problem free. Obviously they are newer so I'm not sure how true this statement is.

    From all my reading all 360s seem to be pretty reliable.

    My 03 6 speed had a problem with the top and it never got completely fixed but eventually worked. I think it is a great car. My 01 F1 I didn't like. The tranny sucked and shifted like a buick or worse and I sold it fast. Changes did occur to the F1 mapping and I think it got better. I like the car overall and the design grew on me with time. For a long time I liked the 355 better. Now I have a 430 and it is by a long shot the best of all three.

    My 03 360 spyder now has 15,000 miles and no issues at all.. daily driver in the summer months.. drive from michigan to toronto often with no trouble.. great cars!!
