Officially 1980 as that was first registration, but you're correct manufacture was late 79 (someone here pinned it to around October IFIRC) as vin is 29041, so yes a very late carb car. If you've never had your car off the highway, you don't know what you're missing - not being sarcastic, just truly a great experience you should try.
Terrible way to ID the year. That method can be problematic when the car needs parts or other service needs that require the manufacture year. I realize you can look at the stamp on the door jamb but if its been painted over and the owner's manual is gone (like on an old British car)...
Talk to the Transport Department... I have changed the date on the info sheet I display with the car at various events but I'm not about to poke the (official) bear! Anyway, when we had the discussion here about the last carbed car many year ago, I think the result was in fact sometime early in 1980. Can't be bothered searching, but from memory the last carb car had a vin number around 32xxx. Not sure what the fuss is? And yes, my car was an 'orphan' when she came into my care; although I've since been provided with some old, interesting history. So what's the bottom line of all this? Even a 'not perfect'' 308 can be fettled into a reliable fun mobile.
No fuss. Some like to wrinkle hands about date of birth. The year on the title here in the states varied quite a bit as well with sometimes little regard to the date in the door jam.
