My wife and I are coming from Irvine, CA and moving to Austin. We wanted to get into a home with a backyard and it wasn't going to happen here due to the cost of living. Just want to say "hi" and look forward to meeting some of you. I have lived all over the country, but most of my life was spent in the Peoria/Chicago area of Illinois.

I was born in Houston and lived in the Richardson Texas area until I was about 10. Will be interesting to see how we like it.

    Welcome back, Travis
Active FCA crowd here so come join in the fun. Lots of things planned through the end of the year.
We have the local dealer FOA, with Winslow the service manager and Carl the factory technician. Nice folks
Also several Indy's like Moorespeed and Elite.

ps... you can't not like Austin

What part of town? We are just finishing a house up near Bee Cave, just south of Lakeway.

Soon. We accelerated a long term plan. Before the year is out. I already joined HC FCA. Really trying to get to the F1 BBQ.

Welcome to Texas. Will this be a permanent, full-time move? More importantly, will you be wrenching in Austin?

    Thanks

Yes. I've had family in Texas forever and always really liked the place. California has just turned into too much of a looney bin for us so we decided to move up our schedule. Besides, you just can't get decent pecan pie in California.
I was there yesterday inspecting the house and a good old life long Texan and I were having a conversation. He said I was a little right of Atilla the Hun and I should fit in fine so it's pretty obvious California is no longer a good fit.

    We'll see.

Brian: Well, I guess I'm just gonna have to buy you a big slice of pecan pie for all the advice you've offered me and the rest of us Texans. Welcome. Post when you're officially here.

Travis: You'll love the roads just west of Weird. Hurry up

    Bob,

Thank you for the warm welcome. Full disclosure: I don't own a Ferrari. I was close to pulling the trigger on a 328 a few years ago, but got gun shy and then a whole whirlwind of crazy events in my life pushed that dream to the wayside for the time being.

That said, I am very happy to be moving where the COL is a little bit easier than where I am currently at, and am excited to stretch the legs of my FR-S west of the city.

I haven't explored around the hills too much but there does seem to be promise. I grew up in the hills and just couldn't see living on flat ground now. Really looking forward to it though. Being here was one thing but having shortimers too makes it much worse.

Good news is FCA doesn't care if you have a car and it is a great place to learn about them and get to really know them.

I am the opposite. Most of my life has spent on flat land with lots of corn around me :) Hills, mountains, palm trees, ocean nearby is all new to me. But the most "new to me" thing is having a birthday in November and it's still actually nice and warm out :)

    Brian,

When are you moving or are you already here? I've thoroughly enjoyed my time in Southern California - the weather and proximity to the ocean is absolutely incredible, but I also won't lose any sleep over leaving here. The congestion, housing costs, the people (have met some great people, but are in the minority), the taxes, and the sub-par food is all driving me out of here.

My wife and I are super excited - Just got a lease on a 4bdr/3ba house, huge backyard (time to finally take the Weber Smokey Mountain out of the box) for about 1000 less than what we are paying for our 2bdr/2bath apartment here!

Packers come the 18th, movers and semi-trailer for the FR-S come on the 20th, and we'll leave that afternoon...start date for work is on the 27th.

House will be ready next week but realistically if I make it down there in a month it will be a miracle.

I hear you. This has been rapid fire for me, personally. My wife and I have really had to scramble. We did a cross country move 2 years ago, though, so I guess you could say we have already had good practice and know exactly what we need to do.

I look forward to seeing you around and best of luck on your move. I think I've lost a little piece of my sanity with each move.

    Certainly hallmarks of California!
Sadly, as an adopted Austinite who's been here for 27 years, the city has been changing and not necessarily for the better... traffic has gotten ridiculous congested, some of the folks people moving here are a-holes (have a couple in my neighborhood)... property taxes going up and up... food options have gotten better but getting into certain restaurants required planning...maybe I am getting older, but sure miss the good old days when rush hour on 360 meant 2-3 cars at the traffic light (heck there were hardly lights...). That said, anyone who is a car nut (non-Prius) is welcomed!

35 at rush hour is very much like California but up where we are going seems pretty OK.

I think so. We scouted around a lot and we kept coming back to the lake area. One trip down the girl at the rental car counter asked what we were doing there, we told her looking for a place for a house. She had just seen my driver license and gave me a map. She said "This is the west side, that's were all the Californians live". I laughed about it but she was right. Within a 5 mile radius we know several and our new next door neighbor is from about ten miles from our old house. We saw a couple of places north of the river we liked but just didn't happen. Were we are is much like it was here 30 or 40 years ago.
