It was an idiot who moved and dumped that Maser, but it was a bigger idiot to park a car illegally in front of peoples pay check.

That sucks. I was witness to a car being moved in a wrecking yard parking lot and it flipped over like onto a nice F-150. Was even funnier seeing the Forklift operator pushing the flipped car around trying to put it back on its wheels!

    Awe come on...

What gives the right to any construction crew to pick up cars with a fork lift?! Care to guess how many munched exhausts are out there???

Most forklifts also don't have a 4000lb capacity. Morons...

I am not saying the construction crew had a right to move it, I am just saying I think tempting a crew by parking your car illegal in front of them, blocking them from going to work is tempting fate and is really not very smart and deserves little sympathy. Remember that picture of a BMW with the windows busted out and a fire hose run threw it, that picture circulated around the internate for awhile this is kinda the same thing, once again if you choose to park illegal in front of a fire hydrant you should not be suprised if bad things could happen to your car. I used to live near a foot ball stadium and people would park in front of our drive way where you could not get out, so once I dragged a car side ways into the street and left it there. Cops did not ticket me, they get tired of it to.
I am sorry the Maser. had such a careless keeper.

True point, but pretty different circumstance with the BMW, that was an emergency and at least it was just the windows. These guys could have called a tow truck to move the Maser instead of playing wrecker themselves. I remember in school when a student parked in the Choir director's parking space. The Director(Mr Hosney, lol) parked directly behind the guy to block him in and see who parked in his spot. The kid was in auto shop class and brought out the rolling auto dollies. Placed Hosney's car on them and pushed it out of the way, leaving it up on the rollers. Man was he pissed for weeks. He never did find out who it was that parked there. The kid's car wasn't registered at the school.

I think what I find suprising is that people think construction workers should behave better than they do? Out of convenince the Maserati driver parks illegally in front of a crew costing them how much?? Crane on stand by, cement trucks stacking up, concrete finishers standing around. So out of convenience they Illegally move the car and total it. If it was cheaper cars it might even have been cost effective to pay fines and damages for illegally moving cars.
The moral of this story is breaking the law sometimes cost way more than the fines, Maserati owner now has totaled car from two stupid parties. I would think the car owner will sue the construction company for damages to car and the construction co will sue the car owner for lost work and job overrun cost and maybe to make an example of them to stop the job slow down from the illegal parked cars, it might be a wash depending on the lawyers and desires of each party.

If the car was parked illegally, you call the police.
If it cost you time/money you bill the car owner. You don't take the law into your own hands.
There is now excuse for this stupidity.

Yes, but what the maserati driver did was illegal to the tune of about $200 (parking ticket). What the construction company did was risking $80,000...

You don't want folks to park on the street? You pay the city for the parking meters, and cone it off or use sawhorses, equipment, etc to block it off. I do this all of the time, and, it guarantees your spot. Hell, if you prepay the meter the CITY will tow the cars for you - for free... Not a big deal.

To say that in any way, the method used for moving this car was justified is pure lunacy.

This is, at its core, a true example of people with too little brains and too much authority. The driver of the fork lift should be fired, and the companies insurance should pay for the car. End of story. There are parking laws and POLICE to enforce them.

If you don't want your car towed or smashed up, don't park in a no parking zone. That's why it's called "No parking". Forklift guy had no right to do that, but when you park in a no parking area, you should expect somethig bad to happen. Those local residents said they have been using the fork lift to move cars for months. So it's not like it was the first time or a big neighborhood secret. Ms. Air Head took a chance and lost. I can't imagine insurance paying for it either.

And if I read the story correctly this car had been continuously parked in the illegal parking zone for some time.

I feel no grief for the Maser owner. In fact, it's called karma. I hope they don't get any money from the construction company and or workers. In retrospect, the worker should have pulled the car out of the way instead of moving it.

People don't understand what it costs when a large crew goes on standby. It's not like some lawyer sitting at his desk playing video games, the dollars start adding up quick, but it would have been better if they just had the car towed. Tow trucks love that type of business because they get the storage fee's on top of the tow! I wonder if they would have moved it if it were a pick-up truck ?
