I am looking to see if I can find anything on that old f1 carbon Ferrari around 1996 vintage that broke up at a historic event.

I wanted to show it to some friends but cant find a link?,, any help would be appreciated

Happened at Monterey "histerics" a few years ago, 2004 perhaps, owner driver was an older Dutchman, Kroymans perhaps, extremely lucky. Body language in photos indicated that he did not seem to realize just how lucky he was to have legs to stand on as tub broke at knee level. It was very odd how the tub sheared off cleanly as though laser cut: normally tubs break in a messy way when they break which takes a lot of energy. Consequently conspiracy theorists claimed it wasn't a carbon fiber tub etc etc....

    Hope this helps.

Yes, that's it. Good find. Scary? His legs are attached and moving. Yes.

The tub failed at a bond line. Shouldn't happen, but who knows the history.

It was at Monterey in 2004 and was quite bizzare nice sound 'till it fell in half.

Very weird incident, he is lucky to have his legs and be alive.

What caused the breaking? If it was a mechanical flaw would Ferrari give him a new car.

It's my understanding that it was a display car chassis. One that had been raced, had a big shunt, then repaired to be a display piece. It was NEVER meant to be on track. At the time I got a much more detailed explaination, but I don't remember it now.

Is that the chassis that MS crashed in the British GP in 1999 when he broke his leg?

Note to self: Don't buy a former F-1 car that has been JB Weld'ed back together.

It was in turn 6. That is a 90 degree, uphill, left hander, so I would call it medium. Not a sweeper, and not a hairpin. Rarely do I see a crash there.

Ferrari repaired an old tub for cosmetic purposes only. The joint is non structural. The gent who bought it was told never to drive it as it was not safe. So he ignores the factory and look what happens. Ferrari was seriously pissed at him for this act of stupidity at the historics!

Maybe they should have disabled the engine. In hindsite, I bet they do.

If they knew it was unsafe they should have fixed it correctly or not sold it in the first place.

Who helped Kroymans to race? Didn't he take part in the Corse Clienti programme? If so, Ferrari are just as "guilty" letting him drive a demo car if that was the case in the first place. Which I highly doubt.
