Ridiculous. I could make new steel belted tires with all of the "security wires" that holds the toys in their packages. My daughter got 5 sets of furniture to go with a doll house and it took 30 minutes just to remove the wire from the little pieces. It goes like this: Child unwraps presents. Child hands unopened presents to parent to use all of their advanced skills to continue the disassembly of said toy.

Luckily for us, my son's set of Legos came in bags, not individually tied. :)

There is nothing worse then the hard plastic wrapped stuff. I got 2 filters for my new lens today and I could barely cut the plastic with a steak knife, as an added plus those things can do some real damage to your hands.

Is there a trick to opening those - I always cut my hands to ribbons and I imagine the item is totally un-returnable when I've finished butchering the packaging to get at the contents :)

I bought a lot of robot toys and each one was secured better than a hull to a boat.

About 5 minutes per box with scissors and me tearing the cardboard and plastic with my hands.

If I didn't remove the boxes the child would have their own kids by the time they got to play with the toys.

Those robot toys wouldn't be Transformers would they? My son got a "few" of those as well. :)

I bought a hard plastic package cutter from Linen and Things for about 5 bucks. It works like a champ and you can't cut your hands with it. I was getting fed up with emergency room visits for pints of lossed blood from attempting to open ANYTHING.

Wear gloves this Christams while opening your gifts. You don't want to ruin anything with your DNA.

HAHA! I feel your pain. I bought something similar, but it was electric. I mean, if these are supposed to make opening these d*mn things easier, why package it in the SAME material? :p

    Now THAT is irony!!

I'm waiting for the day someone sues over getting cut while trying to open a blister pack. I'm sure it's probably already happened but I just haven't heard about it.

Argh! I just got some new electric clippers and sure enough it took me over 5 mins to open the suckers, had to cut the box forty different ways with some scissors (angles on box meant that cutting one end off you still couldn't pull it open... had to go all the way around).

On top of the packaging, a lot of toys are wired into the boxes using a dozen heavy gauge twist-ties! Those are fun too.

Wife got one of these for me this Christmas...she made me open it before any other presents were opened. We laughed at the irony of the packaging also. I went for the heat seal that was between the two handles first. Once this was liberated that tool came out of the packaging with little other fanfare. The tool also includes a small flip out regular and phillips screw driver so there is little need to run to the garage when it comes time to install the batteries on toys.

Yep, Elmo was tied and shackled into his box. What's the reason for it, so kids don't pull them out in the store?

The blades are actually about 1" offset from the handle to keep your hands away from the sharp edges.

You can see a good picture here on their website:

Why aren't the greenies having fits about all this non-recycled plastic in blister packs?

If I use a single styrofoam cup, I've obliterated the planet; but everything under the sun is packaged in plastic and nobody says "boo"?

    Does not compute.
