Drive-in movies. P.F. Flyers - the only "sneakers" on the market (Chuck Taylor's were "basketball" shoes). Get Smart. Icky Twerp!!! (A Dallas/Fort Worth area thing)
I'll take you one from before the big metal foot sizer - remember that big old do-it-yourself XRay machine at the shoe store where you could see your own foot inside the shoe to see if it would fit? It looked like a big old wooden early TV with the screen on the top. We would take turns to look through it and wiggle our toes even if we were not really buying shoes - then they would run us off. Later the health weenies said that these things put out dangerous radiation or something... Remember when Air Conditioned cars were very rare (and very obvious, because you could see the big clear plastic air horns on the rear deck behind the back seat?)
And do not forget lawn darts dangerous cousin............klick klacks! Image Unavailable, Please Login
How about 20 movies by auto manufacturers advertizing their 'fantastic' products (find the Chevrolet Corvair charging up and down the river on YouTube... its a blast!).
Holy crap, I forgot about those! Every kid in my nieghborhood had them when I was about ten years old. a ball to one's temple was not good!
Remember when you could go to the corner store and buy Ice Cream, cookies, Gum, Candy, and a Pepsi for only 10cents???? Now they got them security camera's everywhere!!!!....hahahaha....LOL
Remember buying bottled pop (The best way to drink it) poping the cap off and peeling back the protective layer of plastic to see what was under? Also ... Remember when Cracker Jack prizes contained lead? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Remember getting the Sears catalog before Xmas and going through making notes of the things you wanted? Remember taking the same Sears catalog to the bathroom and flipping to the womens lingerie section for "material" Remember "nanoo nanoo!" Remember candy cigarettes that came in a pack just like real ones and had red paint on one end to look like they were lit? Remember when, if he was REALLY lucky, your friend might have a Commodore 64? Remember when there was no such thing as a color monitor on your computer, and you picked either a green display or, if you were a rebel, amber? Remember when there was no such thing as a mouse, and "huge" games like Leisure Suit Larry came on 5.25" disks and had to be swapped out periodically during play? Remember hooking up the tape recorder attachment to the computer to load games, and if you listened to the tape it was screeches and boings? Remember hearing the screeching and boinging of your modem and praying you got connected at 2400 baud for super fast porn downloading, rather than having to deal with 1200 baud? Remember selecting 10 porn pics to download, going out with your friends, and hoping they would be done by the time you got back? Remember when cable was for rich people and satellites were for secret government stuff? Remember when you could light up a smoke on that long plane ride? Remember being able to buy beer or cigarettes at the local convenience store for your parents, with a hand-written note from them? Remember when they were making new episodes of Three's Company and Growing Pains and Diff'rent Strokes? Remember "The Greatest American Hero"? Remember when Ronald Reagan kicked Walter Mondale's ass? I typed all those from memory... didn't look up lists online. Oh, the good ol' times!
I remember my last flight when you could smoke! It was San Jose to LAX on PSA around 1983. I think a smokers airline could make some money for long haul flights. I'd pay an extra grand to light up on a 12-14 hour flight!
Also, when Cracker Jack had a REAL prize, something with plastic parts you could put together and assemble. Now you get some crappy fold-out puzzle or lame tattoo.
