Jochen was driving his usual Lotus 72 in ultra low-downforce form to maximise top speed around the extremely fast Monza circuit. Whether it was a mechanical failure, or the car’s setup or even driver error we will never know for sure but we lost a star who was to become the only posthumous F1 World Champion.
