Just a reminder to all in the area - The Veterans Hospital show is Saturday, July 16th.
The show is at the North Chicago VA Medical Center
FOC Midwest will be there :) It's not a big public show, it's been organized by Haley mostly for the patients at the hospital (many of whom will live in the hospital the rest of their lives) and is open to the car owners/guests, the veterans/patients, and some of the military staff from the Navy corpsman school and Navy hospital.

The show is free and the VA will provide free snacks and drinks.
Last year we had about 50 registered cars show up - and 10% were italian :)
But remember - It's open to all special interest cars. This year we are expecting quite a few more cars.
If you don't have a Ferrari or your's is in the shop bring another toy. We'd love to see anything fun that the patients would enjoy seeing. Also please feel free to pass on word to your friends with fun cars.

It's just a few hours on Saturday for most of us, but for many of the patients who seldom leave their wards it's one of the best days of the year.
The parking is all on pavement with a lot of space between the cars to give you room.
Haley can provide any additional info anyone needs and I'm sure she will be posting here tonight :)

Thank you everyone who participated last year and we look forward to seeing you this year - and Haley says our red car will be there either under it's own power or if she has to make me push it all the way there !

Here's a couple pics from last year

    Chelle,

Is there a way to group the Ferrari's together? I think it would be neat to have them lined up together, possibly in order of year or something. Also, will there be an easy way out just in case the drivers of a 575, 355 and 308 have the urge around 2pm and want to zip up and dow the tollway for just about 30 minutes? Nothing out of hand of course, just a fun excuse to try something different I guess.

Officially the hours are 11am until 3pm
Patients will start coming out around noon and around 3pm the Director will pass out a few awards.
It's not going to be judged like a traditional show because the cars are so diverse (last year ranging from a 1927 Stutz firetruck to Rocketboy's 2002 Ferrari 575M Maranello) The patients will cast ballots for their favorite and the Director will pick a favorite - and Haley can better tell everyone what other awards/door prizes will be given out
Additionally Haley has been gathering up things for everyone's thank you bag and after the show she makes sure to mail out an official thank you letter from the Veterans Administration and herself for attending and making the day a success

    Rocketboy,
Haley will have to reply on this one - I would imagine if we know how many F-cars will be there we can figure out something :)

    Okee-dokee...update time!

Registration starts at 11am...releases will be at desk if you dont have one yet. Show starts about Noon when the Vets finish with noon meals.

When you register, we will point you to the free soda, hot dogs!! and popcorn!!
Everyone gets a goodie bag with nifty little stuff in there. We also have a DJ this year! 50's and 60's music for all!!

I am even putting my pups to work that day...Pet Therapy Pooches!

Last year, we lined up the cars as they came, it is easy to space the cars that way, so it may be hard to get all of the Prancing Horses in one area, as room will be limited as we think this year will be a bit larger. :) But I will see what I can come up with Rocketboy. :)

About 2:30 PM...we will hand out the trophies, and then who wants to leave can at that time, but that is also the time we will get the cars fired up for the parade...this year, the cars will drive past the 3 main buildings that house Veteran's. That is for the Veteran's who cant travel very far, they can go right outside to see the cars, and those who cant even go outside can still see and hear the cars from the rooms. I have the North Chicago PD lined up to close off RT 137 to let all the cars go thru the VA main gate. The whole parade should not take longer than 10 to 15 minutes, as all the buildings we are going to pass on the parade route are right on the way out the main gate anyways. ;) The 1921 Fire Truck will be the first vehicle in the parade, with the Director riding along, then the Assoc. Dir. wants to drive in a Ferrari with no roof ((heehee)) she is a great lady and my Boss, I told her I would see what I can do. Then the plan to let the oldest abled Veteran ride in the classiest car...maybe a Roller. ;) Out youngest Vet can choose his or her car. and then all the rest follow along.

Every CAR at the Veterans Show will get gifts as well, cant let the drivers have all the goodies. All cars will get 2 American flags to wear!

Lastly, as I have said, this is a free car show to all, no need to bring anything, but Sir Frank mentioned he was bringing a few model cars, I asked the Director and Community Affairs if that is OK, and that is actually one of the favorite hobbies of the Vet's, so we are always in need of model cars and planes for recreational therapy. If you would like to bring a model or two, you are welcome to do so, but it is not mandatory in any way.

So that is about it, Everyone is most welcome to come with a unique car.
F-Car, Lambo, Lotus, Roller, Maser, muscle, vintage, classic, replica, hand crafted...all are welcome to help put smiles on some of the most wonderful folks around! For our Nations Heros, staff and Corpsmen at the VA, thanks and hope to see everyone there!! :):):)

    HIya Rick!

    Directions from south
Take 94 North like you're headed to 6-Flags
After you pass the Lake Forest Oasis you'll take the exit for 137 (Buckley) East. I believe it's the first exit after the oasis
Take that east and you will cross over Rt 43, then Rt 41, and finally you'll cross over Green Bay road. After Green Bay road you will see the VA grounds on the right and you enter by turning right at the first light east of Green Bay road.
You'll see the sign in the pic below and follow the signs. The lots where the show is happening are essentially behind the wards but once you're on the grounds it should be pretty obvious :)
We look forward to seeing you - I'm sure Haley will write more later

Really easy to find. I will be there in my 308,Rain or Shine. I am also bringing along some Model Cars for the Vets. I passed out some Flyers at the Lombard Cruise Night. Lots of Middle aged guys, and some Veterans there, too. They all said they'd love to go.

I tell you. Just to see the Smiles on the Vets faces all day was well worth the drive up there. The Old Timers were really loving the Old Cars...."I used to have one of those....." Or, "My Dad had one of those....." The Vietnam Era Vets really loved the Rods and Muscle Cars. And,the younger guys were likin' the Sportscars and the Ferrari's. And,Everyone loved Mr. Skips Rolls.

And,it's only 3 hours,so,really try to fit it in Saturday if you can. You won't regret it after you've seen how happy the guys are.

Rick, she is going to love any Ferrari with the sun shining in...she is starting to like Ferrari's a lot, but I think I may have had some minor thing to do with that. LOL

She is the only Boss that I have ever had that I can honestly say I very much like and would do anything for her. And besides, she is getting used to Spyder being spelled with a "Y" because of me too. ;) Would be quite fitting I think.

And yes, Mr. Skips Roller will be there too. :)

Hey team I tried calling several local hobby shops around my house to see if they would donate any forms of models for the CAUSE. CHICAGOLAND HOBBIES on Northwest Highway in Chicago (BIG PLUG) will be donating several units to me. I talked to Greg, the owner and he also mentioned the Monagram/Revell also has a program where they sell models at their cost for charity events (price range $2-$3/unit) Greg will work with us if we want to purchase a larger quantitiy for the Vets. So I was thinking if we tried to hit every car showing up for the show for a donation of $2- $4 and collect the money and then work with CHICAGOLAND HOBBIES to purchase additional units for the VETS. Comma guys you are all Ferrari Owners I know we can all donate more than the basis. So what do you think?

I tried Hills Hobby in Park Ridge and got blown off, suggestion is

Was my registration filled out via private message? Forgive me as this heat and breaths of Hummer fumes has melted a few brain cells in my one track noodle.

How many pups are going to be at the show?

You dont need a DJ, Skip has the best voice I have heard since Orson Welles. Though I don't know his taste in music and after the thought of my favorite pic on Fchat, ( the motorcycle crew of Frank,) I doubt you want FerrariFrank picking it out or the Hell's Angels brawls will look like senior citizen bridge game meets.

Is Skip going to be there? Does he need a ride?

    RocketBoy

PS: Is anyone going to the Vintage Racing in Wisconsin the day afterward?

Rick and Frank, you guys are something else, I think a model car donation by the FOC & Friends is a neat idea if that is something you want to do, and I know Chelle would chip in as well. But again, not mandatory, you guys are donating lots already with your time and cars. :) But if you do, I will make sure the group is up on the "Donations Board" and make sure the models will be secured when you get here Saturday.

Rocketboy, I am almost positive Mr. Skip will be there, but as far him taking the place of the DJ?....I dont think the all the Vets here know the words to "Runnin with the Devil" ;)

I am trying to coordinate bringing the family of Shelties out. Mom, Dad, and Pup all do Pet Therapy here, but I will be busy Saturday, and it will be hot, and the Pup get really hyper when she is outside. So I am still thinking about that, I dont want to take the calm ones and leave her home alone either, as I am sure she will punish us dearly for leaving her behind. LOL

I keep getting calls about the show, and one was even from California, I have a feeling this is going to be a wonderful turnout, I can't wait.

    Thanks again to all. :)

Hey this is all for the VETS who risked their lives protecting us the the country, we can never do enough. I'm going by my hobby shop tomorrow to pick up whatever he is donating for the CAUSE. If we can get everyone who attend to donate a little we can work with Chicagoland Hobby to get discounted model from Monogram for the guys. I'm going to try another shop also tomorrow.

While there I also met a guy from the Military Restoration group, Frank like the guys from the Lombard parade, ie old military vehicles. He is going to pass the word out, but it might be a little late to get many guys. He would have gotton a bunch of vehicles if he knew sooner. I know a number of people stated that we should have sent out flyers to various car clubs and shows to draw a bigger crowd. maybe we can do it next year and this time charge a few bucks to help buy models for the VETs, just a thought. We can really make this show grow!

    See you on Saturday!

Yup,I am really looking forward to Tomm. Last Year was great. I have a few Models ready to go. My Son,Frankie picked out a few, (of the "Running Horse" variety) but unfortunately,he will not be able to come along with me tommorrow. His Grandma, (my Ex Mother-in-Law) Passed away suddenly a couple days ago. DEFINITELY NOT the Stereo-typical Mother-in-Law....She was a really Nice, very Classy Lady, (unfortunately,it didn't trickle down to her Daughter....:) )

I also have a few more Flyers that I may pass out at the Downers Grove Cruise Night tonite.

    See ya'll tommorrow!

BTW....While we were out Model shopping. I found a 'Revell' "Miami Vice" Black/Tan Daytona Spyder. I guess whenever I have the time to build my Models that have been sitting, unbuilt for the last few Years. I will put it next to the 'Revell' "Magnum P.I." 308GTS that I bought around 5 years ago....:)
