OK, so lets say I think there is an obscure 80's techno-funk power ballad that just MUST be resurrected for heavy rotation in cheesy euro-trash discos in Milan and Montpelier. What would be a good program to use that will permit to do the whole process without recourse to a studio, something that will permit to simply reassemble the song like Legos????

    Thanks

    Niko.

Depends upon your level of production skill. Most of the 80's songs have been redone already.

Acid Pro is the greatest for things like this, remixing stuff when you have no real "studio" experience/knowledge/etc.

Just a piece of advice, the pan knob is your friend.

Also, without the ability to break the song into it's original recorded tracks (or individual instrument parts)... you're really limiting your self in the end.
But hey, it was always fun when I was doing DJ work in D.C.!

Without the masters you can't. I did it all the time with old 80's songs and no masters at all. Lots of tricks you can do to lay the melodies down below a new beat, use the drop outs and filter them. Sounds like a new song, but still completely recognizable to everyone. But then again, I could put 100+ hours into getting that correct with really good equipment.

Acid pro is great for mixing songs and parts of songs. Propellerhead REASON is great for laying down your own tracks with a MIDI interface.......

Depending on the artist it could get really expensive. It's usually all about money. Plus if you don't have a reputable history remixing songs, they might not let you do it. If it's a b list artist it should be pretty easy.

If your friend has a studio it might be best to lay down the bed tracks at home, do the piano and beat work, then do the mix down in his/her studio.
