When I redid the interior last week I noted electric door lock accuators just below the door handle on the inside of the doors. These seemed to be siezed up and the lever not moveable. In fact the locking lever in the inside door handles actually sticks out from the reciever and can not be pushed in. Not wanting to damage anything I decided to leave that for another day.

So are these electric accuators remote controlled, or do they just work from the key? If they are remote controlled what does the remote look like and does anyone have one to sell? Some early remote key systems worked off a switch connected to the key tumbler, insert and turn the key and both accuator would unlock the vehicle doors. Is the 400 like that?

    Thank you,

    Howard Musolf

Not remote Howard. Series 2 cars, they work off the key. Lock the drivers door with the key and the passenger should lock also.

Kinda lost track what series car you have (update your profile), must be a Series 1 as the Series 2 lock is in front of the interior door handle. Also, when you do get it fixed, always remember 'not to activate' the door locks when a door is open.

Having never done that since it is difficult and why would you turn the key in the door lock when the door is open anyway, but what would happen if you did that?

    J,

I didn't turn the key w/the door open. I mistakenly flipped the interior lock latch as I was exiting out the door, turned around & shut the door. Like you would w/any American or Japanese car----some you'd have to hold the ext. latch while closing, others not. Only did this once the very first time I locked it. Then I read that it was not recommended in the OM, for what reason I don't know. But fortunately, things still work fine to this day.

Oh, I see. Got it! Yea, for some reason they don't recommend locking the doors that way. Wouldn't want to be too much like a German, Japanese or, forbid, an American car, would we?

I know a 330 GT (2+2 Series 2) that someone installed automatic locks and a remote on. Everything is hidden so it looks stock!
