I've searched to forums as best I could and was unable to find and answer to this that was anywhere current.

I'd like to do a remote radar/laser detector install in my 2006 F430.

I've seen the passport remote models ( https://www.escortradar.com/store/passport-9500ci.html )but I really don't want to spend $2000 or so (including installation) on this.

    Any advice

I have this one in my 360 and my Murcielago and it has saved me dozens of times....$2500 though.

I have a Passport srx on my 430, and a passport 9500ci on my Scuderia, both are great systems, but hey run about 2200 installed. I have headr the Valentine One with the remote install is amazing. I dont think you are going to find a good setup for under 2k. If you do, post it here. I would be interested.

I bought an Escort 9500ix windshield mount setup because I didn't want to cut into anything on my F430 for a custom installation. I already did that with K40 system on my E55.

From a radar detector perspective, I placed the Escort in my E55 to test which unit would give me the earliest notice. It is not close; the Escort always goes off before the K40. This may be due to engineering, but it also due to the fact I can mount the Escort unit physically higher. The K40 install on my E55 is mounted low, at front bumper level. All things being equal the higher the unit is mounted, the more detection range you will achieve.

I don't like the power cord hanging down on the Escort, but I know when I am going to drive hard and that's the only time I plug the unit in. I don't have to look at it everywhere I go.
