Ooh, Ooh, I know! They don't like him so its a mutual dislike. They always break on him. I am surprised my 996TT didn't self-destruct when he rode in it. He always wonders about them, and sometimes is swayed to their charms, but common sense always prevails. It's a good thing. We'd rather have him as a Ferrari Stooge than a Porsche Pr*ck anyway.
Even a removable roll cage will need protruding bases welded into the floor on a 355. The challenge cars have a step welded in to rear part of the floor to provide a level surface for the 4 bolts at the base of the cage to be bolted to. This is about 4" higher than the actual floor. There is not a flat enough floor surface on a 355 for just a normal plate to be bolted to. I have just made a set of challenge bases ready for welding into my own 355 if anyone needs the dimensions. Once they are in then a straight forward cage can be made up, bolted in, and removed at any time. You could even use an original challenge one then as well.
Photos as promised. 5mm steel plate folded from a flat sheet using the cardboard templates shown, the seamed joints need welding then they also needed to be welded in situ before the roll hoop is added. The first two pics are of the integral challenge perches as they came from the factory. I have also fabricated perches for the front of the cage as well, but I believe they bolt to the floor at that point on the challenge cars.
