Removal of Rear View Mirror?

try the alcohol with an eye dropper and rag so you dont drip I think you will be suprised let it sit for a few add some more then gently pry at the base with a womens wooden cuticle stick or bamboo stick

 

try a blow drier or heat gun on the outside of the windshield on the opposite side of the mirror base. have one person catch the mirror inside the car. I have had plenty of my mechanics glue the mirror on in the wrong spot and we have to remove it to reposition, a little heat almost always works. afterall that is why they fall of in the first place.

BTW, Acetone is the standard solvent for removing Super Glue.

 

My mirror base and mirror stalk/actual mirror separated the other day. All that was left was the base glued to the windshield.

Parked my 308 so the 80 degree sun was centered on the mirror base.

Then, hair dryer (on high actually) for a few minutes on the inside. Moved the hair dryer from side to side of base. When the base was pretty hot to the touch...........

Razer scraper - and it separated nicely. Popped right off.

 

to reapply mark the outside of the window with a marker, then put the pad on the glass first, as the mirror has a hole in the base and if you put it on the mirror first it is near impossible to get the pad to seal completely.

I’m reviving this old thread as it appears to be appropriate for my situation.

Car: 1975 U.S. market 308GT4

Situation:
The original windshield was broken during removal for painting
The original mirror was saved intact (see below)
I am looking for the correct way to reattach the mirror
I have ordered the Porsche adhesive pad suggested by @Rifledriver above (Thanks, Brian!)
What am I missing, if anything? Should there be a separate bracket between the glass and the mirror? I did not see one in the factory parts diagram
