My car came with inexpensive resin shields already installed by a prior owner. They look cheap, are somewhat faded and are in the wrong position on the fenders. Any advice on how to remove these without damaging my paint would be appreciated. I'm thinking I'll buy some Yoshi shields to make this right per suggestion of Lee328GTS. Please don't try to talk me out of putting Yoshis or equivalent back on since I really like the look of high quality shields regardless of their correctness. Thanks!

If they are "glued" on I'd try heating them with a hair dryer to soften the glue, then buy the best 3M adhesive remover, apply that followed by a soap, water, polish and wax. If the hair dryer does not give enough heat to to melt the glue then I would go with a heat gun VERY CAREFULLY - try not to melt your paint - take it in short heat applications. Let it get too hot and you will melt/damage your paint.

I'd agree some gentle heat should loosen them....or find a local thug teenager to rip them off! LOL!

the 3m is great also alcohol works also peel up the top edge a little or dribble it down from the top as it peels away add more fluid and they should come right off.

Also real Ferrari's (race cars) have stickers you could buy a set of the magnetic ones then remove or keep on at will?

Another useful way to remove is to use waxed, dental floss. Cut a long section, and tie a couple knots in it, to use as "teeth" to "saw" through the adhesive...start at a corner and work your way through it. Not a fast process, and you will use several pieces of floss to do this, but it is pretty gentle, and can be safer than trying to peel it up. Then use the 3M adhesive remover, or WD40 or Goo Gone.

These are (IMO) the nicest shields to get: http://www.yomagic.com/ Thin, and accurate to the factory ones.

Exactly how are these aftermarket logos not illegal under trademark law?

This is a good idea - call FNA and tell them you have some illegal shields you want removed. Let them do the work.

I have a pair that I've never used on a car but are now on my work bench and the back protective paper said: "officially licensed Ferrari product" or something similar. Even Ferrari dealers sell them.

How did you make out? Personally I hae removed Dealer applied signs many times using the process I recommended -
This was after specifying that I did not want their logo on my car.

I have not gotten to it yet. We were in Vegas this past weekend. We stopped by the Ferrari store at the Wynn. Lots of cool stuff!

Never use a heat gun...too much risk of damage. Seen it happen to others.

Like I said, VERY CAREFULY - have used a heat gun reluctantly, but successfully, after the hair dryer did not generate enough heat.

You're probably referring to the resin shields (decals/stickers) which are indeed licensed.

Yes, that is what this thread is about, "Removal of resin shields"! The much nicer metal/cloisonne shields that several sources offer are probably all not licensed.

In those situations in the past, I have taken the car back with a copy of the law and made the dealer remove it.

Ok, did the job today. Pic#1 is the resin shield in place. I used a hair dryer to heat the badge for about 30 seconds and it peeled right off without removing the paint. Pic #2 is the adhesive residue. Pic #3 is the stuff I purchased at Pep Boys to remove the residue. I soaked a soft rag and the residue came right off with no paint damage at all. Pic #4 is after the clean up with water and fresh coat of wax. Pic #5 and #6 are before and after. Maybe I'll leave it "correct" for awhile and see how I like it. Thanks for all the feedback guys. Oh, Pic #7 is a perhaps a more suitable place for these ugly shields!
