    Hi guys.

Okay, some time ago, I had a flat in my 86 TR, and the LONG process of getting the wheel changed was a learning experience.

I did everything possible to try and remove it, including having a company that services heavy equipment in the field come out and try to remove it with a monster truck mounted compressor and 3/4" tools.
Even welded up a tool with a 6 foot lever, along with every other trick that I learned about.
Forget about the hammer and spanner thing!

I ended up having it taken to Shelton in Ft. Lauderdale (great job, BTW) but it took them over a week to remove it since they had to keep hitting it with some soaking agent.

Here is my question for you techs out there and those others who have done it:

I want to remove the front wheels without having to travel 90 miles and leaving her to someone else for a week.
What exactly does one do to get a penetrating oil in to loosen this wheel? - How do you spray penetrating oil into that spline and/or threads?
I don't see any way to get it in wherever it has to go.

I'm willing to buy the socket from Ricambi, but I'm telling you when I saw that compressor die while trying to remove that lug, it left an impression. That thing was huge!

once we had an F40 that the lug nutwas so stuck that not even the local caterpillar dealer with their HUGE compressor and one inch impact wrenck could get it loose, we had to drill several small holes to get it loose!! quite a headache, but we got it loose

I bought this stuff called PB blaster penetrating catalyst to remove my O2 sensor that would not budge at all. It is like a foam and comes with a little tube to spray it out. I'd just try to get it on the side of the bolt, maybe also at the wheel/hub juncture and see what happens. The stuff did work wonders for me in that something that I could NOT get off no matter how hard I tried, just loosened up and I was able to remove it with my hands! The auto parts stores have it. at $3 its worth a try. Also it only took 20 minutes to work.

its important to make sure you have used a good high temp grease on the splines, I first had the octagonal nuts on my BB and it required 2 people to remove the lug, me with a long cheeter pipe on the factory wrench and someone holding the brake for the front wheels, since I have went to 3 ear KOs a few wacks with a lead hammer and they are off, the hammer type impact is what works better vs a steady torque.

the TRs lug is different as it a male type but if you had something that would emulate a hammer action on the lug it would work better and just make sure both parts have plenty of high temp grease on them when replacing

There are many things here that I simply cannot understand.

Perhaps that is for the best, as I also have the single bolts on my '86.

For example, how can ANY impact wrench actuall "kill" an air compressor?

For a second example, please do not tell me where you "drilled several small holes".

    Thank you,

    James

Rolo had to cut the nut off, if I remember the thread correctly, I don't think he reused THAT nut....LOL!

Desperate times call for desperate measures, I understand.......LOL!

    James,

Is Anti Sieze allowed, what does your Technical Data say.....or recommend?

Nothing feels worse than being passed on the highway by one of your own wheels...

That is exactly why those wheels were designed from the holy Factory to sieze up the way they do. It is for your own protection.

It also prevents your wheels from being stolen when parked in dark neighborhoods, say on some sin-infested street corner.

BTW - I once sandblasted an entire swimming pool with a rented Allis-Chalmers air compressor, and not even that could kill this bad boy.

It'll protect against anything up to Aaron White then........LOL!

I wrote that the compressor died, not that it was killed, but thats a quibble.

He would rock or reverse the wrench at intervals and then really let loose on it for awhile.
the compressesor would act exactly like a car that is lugging and after a short time it just quit altogether and wouldn't start up again. - Could have been a heat soak issue, but the tech stated that he never had that happen before even when working on even larger bolts. Took about 20 minutes.

The entire idea of drilling holes or cutting off the lugs is not an option for me.
Since it was done by Shelton, even though it took a long time, it is possible, and I simply was wondering exactly how they shot a penetrant into the assembly, even if they had to do it for a week.

I have time for something to work correctly, but not the will to cut the lugs off of her. Thats crazy.
