The instrument hood is held on by 4-studs, secured with nuts from the under side. They can only be accessed by removing the instrument panel, which itself is secured by 4-screws behind the the 4-warning lights in the corners of the instrument panel. There is no reason to remove the hood, only the instrument panel, to replace the speedometer.

Don't try to remove the hood!

Remove the panel the gauges are mounted on.

Remove the 4 lights on the panel. Behind them are screws holding the panel to the pod.

To remove the lights, you can slip dental floss behind the bezels and pull them out.

The job is easier if you remove the steering wheel. Use a 3mm hardened allen wrench.

they are old plastic and pretty brittle...but I think new ones are avail so go for it....I like the dental floss idea mentioned above...wish I new that one...they DO pull out but can be stubborn..you need only remove teh steering wheel...( the small hex nuts holding the actual wheel rim to the hub...no need to pull the hub...)
