I think mine might be welded on. Seriously - went through the procedure of removing the filter etc. Its tight but I can get a wrench in there. The trouble is in turning it...no real room for leverage. In that the thing isnt budging one bit. Has anyone else replaced theirs and run into the same trouble?

I did mine a few months ago. Managed to get a thin open ended spanner on it with the filter off. It is tight but it is only a parallel M18 thread with copper washer so will break then just spin out. Be careful though as the casting is quite thin.

If any of you are looking for a deal on an OEM oil pressure sender unit. Check out this link for Superformance in the UK. I purchased mine and had it delivered to me in the US for a total of 124.00 USD

Ricambi could probably buy it and sell it cheaper than they do now while still retaining profit. It was this price in North America...about 4 years ago!

I live in the UK and I bought mine from Superperformance. By the time VAT and postage had been added it was the equivalent of 160 USD. Work that one out!.......Maybe I should have gone to Ricambi......

Mine was swapped with the oil filter removed and the use of a crows foot attached to a ratchet and extension.

If you a prepared to use a generic VDO item and an adaptor bush you can buy both for under 50 USD. The result will be the same i.e. it will work perfectly but it "will not be right" (in my pedantic little world).
I searched all over for the original item but I came to the conclusion that only Ferrari et al seem to use it. You cannot get it cheaper elsewhere.

The generic is an option if you want to save a few dollars......The VDO website has all the part numbers.

    Good morning from Spain.

First of all I want to apologize for my english level, which is very low. Anyway I'll try to be understood.

I have seen this thread and I have a problem in the oil pressure indicator of my F430 Spider.

The oil pressure shows the max level all the time when the car is moving. Only when I leave the engine idling, the indicator goes down and remains fixed in the middle of the range, more or less.

    What could be the problem?

Thanks so much for the answers.

Care to link the various parts? I've checked their website and cannot see any obvious means to enter vehicle specific information.

They can be very tight to remove. You can easily unbolt the housing that it's attached too, remove it from the car to renew it. You will need a replacement gasket for the housing for refitting.

    Hi TG,

It's possible the wire connector has some corrosion or the sender has gone bad.

I'd suggest you disconnect the wire, clean it up and re-attach. If not that it's more than likely the sender itself is faulty. You can order a replacement and probably swap it yourself. Alternatively you could attach a mechanical gauge to prove whether the sender is bad or the pressure is bad.

If it's not a dirty or bad connection it probably is the sender and it's not ridiculous money to simply order a replacement to change it out.

    Best.

Oil pressure low at idle? Pressure rises as engine speed rises? That's normal behavior, no?

It shouldn't really be pegged at max all the time though should it? I know mine tends to fluctuate between 1/3 and 2/3 depending on temperature and engine speed. That's my "normal" anyway. :)

Will do over the weekend. I have the VDO catalogue. Trevor posted the numbers a couple of months back whilst I was looking. I'll see if I can dig up the post but it may be on another forum.

Thank you very much for your answer. I'll try to check that.

    Hi JWeiss.

Not low at idle, the indicator NEVER comes down from the middle of the range.

And when the car is moving the indicator is ALWAYS showing the max pressure, even without accelerating.

Been thinking of replacing my oil sending unit. Can someone please help me to get the wire conenctor off? I took a look this evening and cannot find any tap or clip to push as I pull the connector off.

I've never actually disconnected mine (haven't needed to) but from recollection there's a 6mm or 8mm nut on the top that you need to release and then the connection wire should slip off.

I think that's how it goes. Best.
