Hi, Does anyone know the rough procedure to remove a speedo from a Testarossa? (sorry if this has been mentioned before - I've done a search on these forums but can't find any details on this) Thanks, Gary.
the worst thing is to remove a 6 mm nut with a 10 mm hexagonal directly in the center of the steering under the instruments because you can not reach well this place. you may put the complete steering system as far as possible down. no need to remove. then after removing this nut you put the shield away. left and right there are again 2 6mm nuts with 10 mm hexagonal to remove. then you can lift the complete instruments out of those 6 mm stand studs, turn a little to the top and push it to direction windshield about 1 cm. then you can lift it up. may be to disconnect the wireconnections you also have to remove the left side cover where the speakers are in? then the left footrest first have to be removed ( 4 screws ) and the carpet solve about 5 or 6 cm. there are again 2 tapping screws you can not see because of the carpet is on. but when you don´t remove those the plastic will brake. also directly on the left side of this speaker cover directly at the A-column are also 2 tapping screws. hard to find and nearly not to see when you don´t now where you may look. if you can not find or feel take a magnet to look for. I just did this last thursday the rest to remove the speedo then is easy and you may see what screws you have to take away. good luck

The worst part is removing the small 6mm nut that holds the trim piece in place. It's shown on the first pic in the thread Steve referenced above. If you are lucky, it had been removed before and you can squeeze your fingers in there and get it off. If not try two long screw drivers and use them like chop-sticks. Or a thin wall/swivel head socket. Once the rectangle leather trim piece is out, 2 more bolts, 3 electrical connectors under dash and the pod is now free to rotate upward. Do yourself a favor and replace all the instrument lights while the pod is out. Couple of bucks but worth it. I would also open up the Tach and check for loose connections etc. (I just had mine rebuilt.....loose wires/ circuit board). When the pod is back together, hook up the 3 electrical connectors and do a function check before mounting to dash. I had two light assemblies plugged into thw wrong holes.....jocularity ensued.
Thanks to everyone for all the info on the speedo removal so far. In my searching I read somewhere that is was just 3 bolts, but they didn't give any details - I can see now that it is more complex than this! Chris - I still working out exactly what I am going to do. I may have found someone who can make up an overlay, but I'm going to email photos of the speedo to be sure before I go down that path. Either way the speedo needs to come out, hence I thought I would pre-empt things a little to get an idea of what is involved.
