Hi Guys. Can anyone tell me how to get the door handles and housing bucket out? Plastic has become sticky, so I need to go for a treatment (most likely to go for Robbie at stickynomore.com, although am a bit scared about sending pieces accorss the Atlantic and cost efficiency).
Also, some experience of other plastics becoming sticky on a 512TR? Instruments on the central tunnel and ventilation caps still look Ok, but am wondering if it's the same problematic coating as on the doors.
    Thanks in advance !

I know these cars have a problem with some interior parts becoming "sticky", but that looks as if something you've been using to clean it with is the culprit. Could be wrong-just my 02.

When you lift the handle, does it expose a screw?

Indeed, there's a screw below the handle, although the screw doesn't seem so accessible.

The problems really started when i cleaned the leather, and poored some product on the passenger handle bucket. Before that, plastic was not great but still Okay. After that moment, it became what you see on the pics ! And no treatment to remedy (tried Meg, Protech and even Swissvax -with no result).

Doesn't matter what you clean it with. The plastic has an outgassing effect on the coating which turns it sticky. Think of how many other cars with plastic interior pieces have a coating on them,,,,,none....Why this is a large problem for Ferrari and not other car makers....

I think to have to pull up on the door handle, and get a long screwdriver to get to it. Then you can slide it forward/backward to remove the whole assembly which is held in by a couple of metal tabs if I remember correctly.

Sorry it's been a couple years since I've done it, and the car is the shop at the moment so it's all by memory.
It's slowing coming back. Rocking back and forth is not very descriptive now that I think about it. What you will need is a thin putty knife and insert it at the front between the black plastic bucket and the leather. Then you push the whole assembly toward the rear so the front can clear and it really does pop out at the front. Then you can remove the assembly - but like you mentioned the nut that attaches to the wire/door lock/release is still attached to the assembly. Once you have it out, you'll see it the locking mechanism, and how it operates.
The hard part it trying to get it back in once you are done because there is very little slack on the cable to connect to the assembly. I think you need a long needlenose pliers to aid in this process.

Indeed, I went through it this w.e., and thanks to you guys, it was not a big deal. The two difficulties I met were 1. disconnect the door cable (too tight, not loose enough to disconnect easily the cable right below the door handle bucket) and 2. take out the bucket from the door panel (without spreading this messy sticky black coating on my fine -tan !- leather).

After going through it, and mixing a bit with Lloyd's excellent thread mentionned above (thanks Lloyd, hope you don't mind being copied in part), I would suggest the EASIEST way for somebody who wants to do the same is :

    1. Remove the arm rest pad located to rear of grab handle by gently pushing the arm rest to rear while swinging/pulling the front portion of the arm rest pad out toward you. There is a tab on the front of the arm rest pad which slides under the grab handle and there is a spring metal clip on the rear of the arm rest pad which clips under the door panel and provides tension to keep the tab on the front portion of the arm rest pad under the grab handle.

    2. Disconnect the door cable (#23) where it is attached with the white plastic clip (#16). See chart below (source picture: Ricambi). A flat screwdriver will help loosen the plastic clip, and the rod will pop up.

    3. Now that the door cable is loose, you can lift more easily the door handle. Raise the inside door handle and you will find two screws under the handle. When these two screws are unscrewed the handle and switch assembly can be removed.

    4. There is a tab on the front edge of this assembly. Easiest way to pull was to raise the handle, push assembly towards the front, and lift assembly by the rear. When the rear is out, the tab at the front will be dis-engaged easily. Note: if your plastic is sticky as mine was : as soon as bucket starts to move up, wrapped it up with plastic film and fold the film well around the border of the bucket. That will avoid putting black stains on your leather.
As an alternative to (4): I also found out that the whole assembly could be slided towards the rear, and then you can use (as suggested by tvu) a thin putty knife can be inserted at the front between the black plastic bucket and the leather.
The first solution was easiest for me, and i found out there was less risk of damaging the leather at the front of the assembly.

    5. Disconnect window switches remembering which one is which. To remove the mirror switch you must swivel out the two tabs (one on each side of the plug) which lock the switch to the plug.

Here you are. To put everything back in place, you can proceed in the exact reverse order.

Again, there may be other (quicker) ways to dit it for more handy people, but that's what i found easiest, and safest.

Hope that will help. Many thanks to all of you for the great info provided !
