He would not let go of it!
This is an original, numbers matching, ONE OWNER 1967 Jaguar XKE 4.2 Roadster. It was just removed from the recently deceased original owner's garage where it has been stored and has not been driven or started since 1980. We have not and will not attempt to start it. Mileage is 82,996.

Without prejudice, what makes this particular car worth 29,500 in that condition? 80K + miles, and it might well take another 75K in restoration to make a 75K$ car in today's market?

Or, am I totally out of the S2 XKE value situation in these hard times?

All depends which side of the business you are on. In the past few years, someone like Classic Showcase would by a car like this (usually a covered headlight 4.2 OTS) for $20K, do their 99.8-99.9 point show restoration and sell it $130-150K at auction.

A little rough (I'd want to see the bottom side). The miles are pretty high, I'd bet it is in serious need of a complete overhaul.

All that said, it is a Series 1.5 OTS, they're not makin' em anymore and I've done a bunch of restorations on Etypes. Nearly the entire car is available in reproduction.

Well, I didn't mean to say that it was totally worthless - just that it would take a real XKE enthusiast with a strong constitution to bring it back.

Wonder if that engine is locked up?

Wonder if they might take 12.5K?

Right - this is a "series 1.5". Not official Jaguar nomenclature, but they started cutting in S2 changes at the end of the S1 run. The Jag specialists I know have headaches with these, since the changes differed from car to car.

I think $29.5K for a tattered S1.5 is too high. I bought my 1966 FHC 4 years ago for $19K and it's in WAAAAAAAAY better shape. Granted, mine is an FHC, but it's an S1, and it's got a completely redone interior with only 36K miles on it.

    FWIW.

I'd imagine those days are long gone.

I do appreciate how they put some tire shine on it. Should add $0.50 to the overall value. :D
