I just went down to the local muffler shop and swapped out the resonator on my 550 with custom made straight pipes, about $330. There is now more sound, but I can also understand why the resonator was put in. The added sound is only coming up into the cabin in the middle.

Does anyone have a Tubi exhaust for sale? This should add sound to the rear.

    Regards.

Make sure you get the 575 stamped Tubis...the 550 Tubis will be WAAAY too load and have terrible resonance at cruising speeds. Ask me how I know.

    Hi contadino,
What is your recommendation? Or is there a thread for this already?
Note that I don't find there is too much noise, especially at cruising.

    Hi Jim,
sorry i would not have understood badly.... but in your before post you told "the 550 Tubis will be too load and have terrible resonance at cruising speeds", i agree, i have a friend who have big experience in those exhausts and explaiened me in past some things ....

When you write "that I don't find there is too much noise, especially at cruising", whht you intend exaclty? not too much noise inside or outside the car?

In general tubi or capristo make resonation inside, that is amplified by the straight pipes ....

    greetings

You might try rerouting the vacuum lines first to keep the mufflers fully open all the time. That helps but didn;t do it for me so I got rid of the mufflers too and went with tubi straight pipes.

I recently put a Tubi on my 550 which had the resonator removed and also straight pipes installed.
With the Tubi it is loud, no question, however at about 2,300 - 2,800 RPMs it's actually very mellow. After that the higher the revs the louder it gets.

Fabio's H pipe HGTC mufflers eliminate the resonance and have those beautiful HGTC tailpipes. The H cross pieces act like balance tubes.

I have the Braden dual straight pipes in the middle and 575 Tubi tailpipes (street version, not the louder race version 575 Tubis).
I really like the sound and set-up of the pipes this way.

At highway cruising speeds (60 - 85 mph) the pipes quiet down and have minimal droning effect.
The sound level is very comfortable for long trips. Not Lexus quiet, but comfortable.

At slower speeds it has the wonderful "burble and pop" sounds that only a Ferrari V12 can make.
The pipes sound great under acceleration, especially as the RPMs rise.
And, during down-shifting, the pipes make wonderful rumbling sounds.

I still have the stock mid-pipe and stock tailpipes.
I'll save them in my garage for the next owner.

Here are pictures of the underside of the car.

I have the same setup on my 550 but with 321 SS straight pipes I had made up for me at Classic Coach nine years ago before Bradan made them available. Same experience as yours but I'll add that it makes a great sound when I get on the gas pedal.

I purchased my 2000 550 3 1/2 years ago and was very disappointed with the factory exhaust note. I have now been running the Braden straight pipes and Tubi's for three years and have been thrilled with the sound. It really sounds like a Ferrari now.I will not go back to the stock set up as long as I have the car which will most likely be many years!

Once you see Fabio's work, everything else looks substandard. Fabio also takes the time to explain, in detail, what makes his products the best out there.

Fabio's system is by far the best out there and the HGTC tailpipes look great. The H center pipe eliminates just about all resonance with its balance tube design without losing hp like a normal X-pipe.

    Hey tres,
I've heard this setup in another post. Wow, it's awesome. But probably way out of my price range.
Will this setup pass smog in CA?

I recently purchased Fabio's double-H pipe to replace my OE resonator. It is first-rate and Fabio is first-rate to do business with. Great guy!
