    Hey guys,

My drivers side window quit working and I was going to investigate under the door panel. I did a search but only found 328 removal, any tricks for getting the 308 door panel off. I removed all the small phillip screws and the pull knob for the lock, do I need to remove the arm rest? Are there other screws somewhere?

    Thanks for any help.

    Randy

yes there are two screws or nuts I believe 10mm or larger,on the arm rest and grab at the bottom and lift out and up to take the panel off

First pop out the switches and check power to them. It may save you some time if the problem is electric related. If your pass side works and not the drivers side, you can swap the power supply from the pass side to the driver side and see if it is in the switch.

Yes, you have to remove the arm rest..IIRC, the speaker grill may have a long screw (or two) meeting the door also....pretty straightforward after that.

Hmm, I think you can actually clean them...somehow.

The power feeds from driver's door the passenger's, so maybe it is just the switch not making contact properly.

I went to work today and my forearm looks like I lost a catfight over the weekend. (new spark plugs, gapped at .022 - 025)
The Corvette guys teased "Why don't you just BUY a NEW car??"

    LOL!

    Where's the challenge in THAT!!!???

    Well........No luck on the window.

I got the door panel off and back on, putting it back on was a PAIN....

I switched the swithces and the drivers switch will operate the passenger. How do you swap the power supply? I also checked the fuse, seems to be fine. Two weeks ago the window worked ok, very, very slow but could get it up if caught in a rain storm, but now it does nothing. It's like it's disconnected, and I stink at electrical so how can I check to see if power is getting there.

Thanks for any help and tips.

    Randy

PS.....BigTex, my neighbors ask me all the time...."why do you buy those old cars, you just waste your weekends working on them"......They just don't understand or ever will....:)

Randy, have you tried taking the switches out and swap th econnections at the console? you can take the switches out with a tiny common screw driver and pry them out without taking the console apart, I've done it. it might just the switch or like you said not connected

Swap the bottom connections on the left hand fuse block. They are the 9th and 10th fuses. i think the wires are black/white and blue/black. Start there and work your way back to the switches. There is an 8 spade connector under the steering wheel that they run through. try disconnecting that and cleaning the terminals.

if the drivers side switch worked the pass side window then the problem may be the motor gear drive. pull off the door panel, you're problaby getting good at it now, put your hand on the drive motor and see if it's trying to turn the gear when activated. you may have to clean and re grease the gear drive. there are some very good threads on that procedure. good luck
