Total dumb guy question: trying to upgrade the anemic interior lighting in my 348 TS, and wanting to know the best way to remove the light assembly. I assume it just pries out, but safer to look like a knob here than to risk breaking $omething.

Yes, I did search-- no doubt it's posted here somewhere but I didn't see it and kept getting distracted by other cool threads. :)

I replaced mine. Didn't like the chrome look. Found a black one cheaper. Pried it out if I remember correctly.

Bwahahaha! Easy for you to say. So many great threads here...

Just to clarify, my car is a TS, so the light is on the targa bar. Same removal procedure?

Leo, that light assembly is the same one I have in my X/19s. My '76 has a chrome surround, my '85 has a black surround. And yeah, X parts are waaay cheaper than F-car specific stuff. Hence the question. After 30+ years of working on cars professionally and as a hobby, I've finally learned that it's better to look like an idiot and ask someone who knows than it is to risk breaking a part.

Thanks to you both for your quick replies. About to head out and see if I can figure out how to remove the lamp from the targa bar but if anyone can confirm or deny that the prying method works on it as well that would be most appreciated.

Once you've got the white lens out with careful use of a blunt table knife, it clears the way to get finger tips up behind to 'gently' ease the light assembly downward and away from the roof lining/recess.

Being a TS I'd be interested to learn if you have an antenna coax cable in there behind the light housing, and also if yes, how it is terminated?

Using the excellent tips offered here, I was able to easily remove the interior dome lamp assembly by inserting a 1" putty knife between the lense and the frame, and then levering the lense out. The assembly itself popped out just by putting my finger through one of the holes in the back and pulling downward. Piece of cake after you guys showed the way.

Dave, at your request I poked around in the recess and wound up finding a cable apparently terminated exactly as the one depicted in your thread here: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/348-355-sponsored-bradan/488943-audio-installers-any-ideas-what.html

My car is a US spec '91 TS with an aftermarket (dealer installed?) electric antenna mounted in the right rear quarter. AFAIK, the US cars were no longer fitted with roof mounted antennae by '91, but perhaps the factory continued to install the cable for use in other markets? Or perhaps the roof mount antenna remained the factory solution even after they quit installing them as OE, but dealers here opted for a look more familiar to Americans? Do you know if mid and later year UK spec 348s were fitted with roof mount aerials, either by the factory, or by dealers?

Thanks again to everyone who offered advice!

Mine is UK Spec RHD TS, first registered for the road May 22nd 1992 and has a roof mounted aerial. You've got me wondering now if that's original, I've always assumed it was.

Pretty sure my 1991 UK TS has never had a hole in the rear roof area, if it had it would be obvious from the inside but having just been out to the garage and checked there's no sign at all up under the light fitting (which I still have out at the mo). Moreover, the end terminal in the factory fitted antenna cable has no witness marks on either side of it to indicate it was ever fastened to any device, such as aerial/antenna. So I'd agree its likely that the factory were running the antenna lead on the build line, but not fitting anything on the end of it in many cases.
