Ok, what's the trick to get the covers off.....

I think I have all the nuts and hardware removed... the prior person that had them off last really likes silicon sealant..... Is there some trick to break the seal?

And when I put it back together what's the recommended approach when it comes to gaskets? Do you put them on dry or is there some sealant that should be used with the gaskets?

We removed the covers on my 355 engine by using a screw driver. Put it between the cover and the head but be carefull not to damage the aluminium. Using some force the cover will come off. To reinstall it we used the gaskets (attention: there are also 4 small o-rings inside for the spark plugs) and also added the white silicone.

What I did on my 348 was to remove the rear cam seal covers, or rear cam sensor. Then pop them off by using the space from the hole to get ahold of the cover. It should be the same deal for the 355.

I had trouble with this too...took some very careful prying to get it to move. I used a screwdriver that I ground down to a very thin leading edge to get in there without damaging the aluminum. I'll let you know in a few months if it leaks :D

Thanks guys... that did the trick. I have the covers off and it appears that one of them was cracked in teh two lower corners and the repair has started to leak.

Does anyone have an extra 1-4 cover they would be willing to part with...

Or know someone that can repair a cracked one.
