    All,

As many of you know I am "fixing" my newly aquired (9 months ago) 81 GTSi. It has been very long and slow. The newly redone seats from the frame up are finished and I cannot wait to get my grubby little paws on them. :)

I am trying to get the crapy MB  radio system out of my car. I have the air vent duct out and can see the mounting to some degree, but cannot for the life of me discover how to get the MB radio system out. The system has four holes in the bezel that will fit a 3mm allen wrench but there does not seem to be screws in there as I have tried unscrewing it to no avail.

Can anyone help me get that thing out before I opt for a BFH (Big F&^@*$g Hammer) to get "Da Mother" outta there? If you do not wish to post in an open forum I totally understand. Please just PM me with the instructions.

    Thanx in Advance,

    Mark

Mark, the radio is probably a DIN mount, take a metal coat hanger cut it into two sections about 8" long bend them in half and put the ends of both pieces into the holes on either side at the same time and push in it should release the radio. You may have to pull a little while your pushing in at the same time.

    Good Luck,
    Ron

Another worthy tool is a hacksaw blade with the teeth ground off. Recall my radio having tabs on each sides which the blade easily unsnaps.

Or you could use the tool that would come with the new stereo. ;)

Barring that, the other option would be to get a couple of those PCI/ISA card slot covers from the old computers -- the blank panels.
They should be long enough to release the clips on either side of the DIN mounting frame. (Haven't tried it myself, though.)

Most stereos have some kind of "Key" that is used to remove the radio from the "Din" housing.
This is a photo of a Kenwood radio and the mounting hardware + 2 keys that came with it.
Most Stereo shops can remove it for you for a minimal fee, if you don't have the keys to do it.
(I bought these Kenwood keys off of Ebay)
