    Hi All,

Below are two pictures showing the differences between the Euro and USA early carburetted 308 fuel tank setups. I am currently in the process of removing all extra USA spec emissisions control stuff from my car and was wondering if there are any problems with removing the items shown by red x's on the USA drawing. My car is a non catalyst carburetted 308 and all the emissions air pumps are gone with all ports properly pluged. I figured that while I was at it that I could do away with all these extra canisters seeing as the Euro cars don't have them. So the question is, is is ok to remove these components? Thanks in advance.

The last time I was in at an indepent and he fixed my carbs he yanked all that stuff out to let the engine compartment temperatures stay down. Car has never run better. Unless you show it, removing it properly and it shouldn't hurt it.
Of course I'm no mechanic, just a driver.

As long as the hoses don't leak those canisters have no effect on how the engine runs. The charcoal is for catching fuel vapors from the tank and storing them until the engine starts, at which time the fumes are sucked into the engine and burned up. We all like performance but we all like to breathe clean air too and removing the canisters doesn't really give any performance advantage except for maybe shedding 2 pounds from the car.

Have you seen the video of the yellow 308 going up in flames at the pump?? Fuel vapor is a serious issue...

Given some ferrari's propensity for this behavior, wouldn't it be wise to make sure this system is working rather than eliminating it?

Thanks for the feedback guys. Its all coming off. Most of the system was already disconnected or plugged and I am not after performance, I just want to clean up anything that is unnecessary. As for the 308 that went up in flames, I suspect that the parts I am removing had nothing to do with it. A broken filler neck is most likely the culprit here.

No, that is very true...the filler neck hose is probably the culprit in most of these types of fires.

I'm just saying, that there is a reason vapor return lines are on cars.

    Hi Rob
I would just make sure that the system won't pressurize itself. The Euro GT4 has a small hose going down to lower frame level from the filler overflow. It is item 25 on Tav 9 (page 37) in the parts manual pdf on http://dino308gt4.com. I can't see that on your US parts diagram (It is on the Euro one) although I would expect there is something similar.

I ran the tank vent hose PAST the exhaust towards the ground.

Sounds good. Will state the obvious to watch for the one way valves and ensure the tanks can also breathe in as fuel is used as well as breathe out.
    Good luck!

I see your point, though, I whole heartedly agree with Wil.

I'm always looking for a couple HP here and there, but I'd like to be able to breathe while I'm doing it.
