Okay, I started a thread a few days ago about pulling the oil and gearbox sump covers on a 308 qv to replace the gaskets (and got some great and timely advice). I was warned that pulling the oil sump cover requires removing the oil dipstick tube and temp sensor and that it also required removal of the front right engine mount. As I looked at it this weekend, that appears to be accurate and so now my questions are regarding pulling the front left engine mount with the engine still in the car. Can I just put a bottle jack somewhere under that corner of the engine to hold it up and then unbolt the mount from the frame and the spacer attached to the engine block? Is there a good place to put the support to remove the mount and then still be able to pull the sump cover or would it be best to 1) support the engine and pull the mount, 2)pull the dipstick tube, 3)put the mount back on, 4)pull the sump cover and do the gasket, 5)replace cover, 6)pull mount then put dipstick tube back, and finally replace mount. That sounds like just about the correct amount of Ferrari PITA to do an otherwise simple task. I appreciate any advice or war stories from owners who have done this foul task before.

On my old car (euro 308 QV), there was no need to remove an engine mount to replace sump gaskets. All you need is an open ended wrench the size of the dipstick attachment, and cut off the end of the wrench to just barely fit in the space available. I think I used a 1-1/6" wrench and just cut off the box end, but that size would need to be confirmed.

    Good luck- jwise

The tube nut is 27mm. That tube can be a real SOB to break loose. By removing the mount, you will have more room to work. Remove the engine mount first and see if that give you enough access. If not, then remove the engine mount bracket from the block.
