I am attempting to upgrade the bezel in my ‘78 308 GTS with a single opening for modern Bluetooth Ready stereo. Currently it has the existing Blaupunkt original. While I already have another enclosure that I bought off of eBay - it was cut in order already to preserve my own, but I’m having difficulty removing my old bezel from the dash. My question is can this be done without removing the entire dash? How is it attached to the main dash at the top everything else seems to be free and moves…

It's been awhile since I was under there, but I believe it is riveted. Check with a flashlight and a mirror.

    Hey Guys,

It's been a llllloooonnnng while since I've ben on here...! That stated, the first thread that I stumbled across was this one! Interesting wcampbell that you'd like to find a cut-out version of your dash to accommodate a modern version of stereo. My car came with a radio "blank," and when I removed it, the entire flat portion of that panel was cut to accommodate a modern stereo unit (absent). I wish I could trade it for yours as I purchased a NOS Blaupunkt (exact period to car), and am having difficulty in mounting it. "Thorn" indicated that the panel is riveted, which indicates that the panel can be replaced. Has ANYONE seen a replacement, to include the fabric? I'd sure appreciate ANY insight Gentlemen,

    Thank you,

    Chris.

    Chris,

Thanks for the reply and insight - I'm a purist so yes I purchased a separate panel already cut for the modern unit because I wanted to "Save" my old enclosure and Blaupunkt. I wasn't sure what was needed to get the enclosure out! If it's riveted did this mean removing the entire dash pad or whatever other means to get access to the rivets for removal? Researching... The other option might be for me to send off the Blaupunkt and have it "gutted" for new digital and BT ready capabilities and yet save the look of the face - means no enclosure removal, but $600+ to do the head unit conversion...wanted to hear what people thought of the first and then weigh the second decision based on the first.

    Hello Wayne,

It's good to meet another purist! Actually, I really like your idea of having the old unit gutted and new components installed! I mean who used cassettes anymore anyways..? I might have a few lying around, but wouldn't think of using them..LOL...

Wayne, did I understand you correctly is suggesting that you DID PURCHASE a new panel? I wonder if you can purchase the original with the older (factory) cut?

    I'd be a buyer....

Thank you for the reply Wayne.

    Chris.
