OK, so this isn't for my Ferrari, but I expect the detailing experts here can help.

I just put a set of Girodisc rotors on my GT3. I left the car out overnight in the rain and as expected the rotors rusted in the slots and on the area which is near the hat which the pads don't contact. I know this really is no big deal as it relates to stopping performance, but If I go to car shows I'd like to clean up the rust if possible or minimally have it converted to black oxide or something. What is safe to use on the rotors which do not require me to remove the wheels to use it? I was going to try coating them in blinker fluid (only kidding). FYI: I don't want to wire brush them either as that would be a losing battle as every time I wash the car or it rains the rust comes back. This is purely a cosmetic question if something is even possible.

    Thanks,
    Cheers,
    Corey

There is a spray you can use on eBay or you can take the wheels of once and spray them black with high heat paint drive the car and the the break pads will remove the overspray

The GiroDiscs that I bought some years back had a zinc coating that prevented that cosmetic problem. Now you have to ask for it. You might ask about a trade-in if you want a long-term solution.

I don't see any reference to zinc coating on their website other than a special order kit for the 308 which even includes new front calipers. I guess they may no longer offer it.

Interesting. I didn't order the rotors, they were ordered from my speed shop. Maybe they don't know it's an option.

I think I know why they may have not zinc coated them by default. Based on some research (google), zinc coating doesn't last long on rotors that are tracked due to the low melting point (419c). Racing is the main purpose of the Girodisc.

I spoke to my detailer, and he said to try the newer type of wheel cleaners which react with rust and change color (he recommended one brand, but said there are a few out there). Then coat with something like Hyde's Serum Rustopper after washing.

If you can accept the mat gray finish that Brembo uses on the hats of their rotors the go to product is Wurth SBS Brake Treatment. It is designed to be spayed on the complete surface of the rotor to tame pad noise so all you do is remove the wheel and spray. Pretty long lasting and prevents rust. Only problem is finding the stuff, not all Wurth suppliers stock it.
