Is it possible to remove the 430 Scud stripe? What does this require? Thinking about buying one, but particularly do not care for the stripe.

I believe the stripe is painted on. ,so in order to remove that stripe would require an entirely new paint job... aside from that the stripe is a 8k dollar option from the factory so by removing the stripe you will be lowering the value of the car.

    It's under the clear coat.

There are Scuds without the stripe. If you look long enough, you'll find one. Usually cheaper without the stripe.

Im in the stripe-less fan club. I like the look much better without it. If I were looking for a Scud I would want a stripe delete, leather interior example.

As stated its part of the paint. I dont know what % of Scuds/16Ms have them, but it seems like 9/10 cars.

This spec does represent a great value purchase in the used market, no stripe and leather interior are both considered non preferred options (rightly or wrongly) so reducing likely outlay considerably on what is already an outstanding car for the money.

For whatever reason, no stripe Scuds lose a lot of the appeal that make it what is. As mentioned, add leather in the mix, and it just seems wrong. lol

Having said that, if I found the perfect Scud that had leather, I could live with it. But if it didn't have stripes, I'd have to pass.

I'm one of the few wth a stripe-less scud. It didn't matter much to me when I bought the car but some days I wonder if I should have gotten one with the stripes, other days I am perfectly content....and then there are the days I've seriously contemplated doing a complete wrap job. What is my problem??!! Btw, I've had mine for about a month.

Your kidding? 8K? I had no idea. Well if I buy one with the stripe I suppose I will leave it on or wrap the car. I was looking for a white scud with no stripe but there does not seem to be any out there.

A scud without race livery is like a Ferrari without its prancing horse shields...

^ +1 I'm a stripe guy also. I don't want an "in your face" stripe, that's not my personal style, but I feel a subtle stripe really enhances the car's look. IMHO only.

There is a pragmatic in addition to the aesthetic side; marketability and nudge up in value.

With or without Stripe is very much your own personal preference.
However, to remove a factory Stripe, means a complete respray of the hood, roof and engine lid, after stripping off all the clear and some of the color to get to the stripe. Very expensive indeed !!!
If you are seriously looking for one without a Stripe, it would probably be worth your while to also check out the ones advertised with a Stripe that don't specifically say factory Stripe.
There are at least 50 or 60 real Scuderias running around with one of our after market Stripes.
It would probably be double that number for Challenge Stradales.
Our Stripes have been removed after having been on Rosso cars for 5 years without any damage to the paint, or any difference in the paint color where the Stripe has been.
    Good luck with your search.:)
    Ciao

Yes, it is possible, but too expensive. The removal is done with paint thinner, the expensive part is to re-paint. Stripe delete takes a $5k on market value, plus the cost you incur on removing the stripes.

Personally I would never do this, as I like the stripe.

But if you really wanted to try and do this cheap as possible, with the intention that you should do a respray anyway.

You could mask off around the stripe and wet sand ever so slightly the strip off to the layer of paint underneath, making sure you dont go so deep. The original paint has some depth so you have some very little bit of room to play with. Once you hit sand it all off, spray clear on top. Im sure any paint shop will have a go and I think they believe it has a fair chance of working too.

I dont think a Ferrari paint will fad, so I believe you wont see the colour change different from where the stripe was to where it was not, only because they are kept in garages and not parked out in the sun and Scuderia's are not such an older model.

So if your serious I would try this first, as either way, they must sand it off for a respray anyway.

Thanks, If I decide to remove it I will take your advice. I may not do it now though, depends once I get the car and see how it looks.

I like leather better than pseudo-suade also. I purchased and installed a set of factory manual adjustment Daytona leather seats in my 16m. The factory seats hurt my back so bad that after an hour of driving I could hardly walk.

I guess we are in the minority together. I personally dont care for the alcantara. I don't think its ugly or anything, but I would want leather.

Only upside in my eyes to not having leather is the lack of needing to care for it.

I had the opposite, 430 coupe seats gave me terrible lower back pain on longer drives, 16M seats are perfect.

Mine has a stripe and I also slightly prefer the no-strip look. I think it has to do with all the other non-ferrari cars that people put stripes on. I'm no longer surprised when I see an accord with racing stripes.

Also sign me up for an alcantara bath robe.

Is the full leather interior not too 'slippery' for the Scud? I love my alacantara interior because it really holds me in snug and I don't shift around at all once I have planted my butt in the seat..?
