When I bought my 348, it had this thing mounted on the roof - YUCK! I think it's the antenna for the theft recovery system (which I removed).

Since my car had its radio antenna mounted on the windscreen, I needed to do something to fill the hole in the roof, so I purchased a fake "Fuba-style" antenna (about $8.00) that has a look identical to my VW Corrado, and used that. Personally, I think it looks fine, rather sporty, and if you'll keep my little secret, no one will know it's a cheap piece of useless plastic.

You can gain access to the underside of the antenna by removing the interior light assembly (at least on a ts, I'm not sure about a tb). The light has two plastic tabs on each side. Just pry it out with a blade screwdriver, at the two little indents on the side of the housing.

Dude, that is actually used for making fantastic scrambled eggs. Don't throw it away.
