With a hammer yes, never needed penetrating oil to do it for a car with carbon ceramics. Heat should be fine, just concentrate it on the hub. Gotta remember these things get hot all the time under braking, so a bit of heat is normal for these parts.
ok - its night here but ill give it a few slaps close to the radius of where the wheel studs go through in the morning and see what happens! wish me luck!
Am i ok to use a metal hammer? OR should i be using a rubber mallet or something to avoid damaging the face of the brake rotor centre?
Do not hit the face. Hit the stepped out part so that you are impacting radially to the axle. You may need a bar put against the step feature and then hit the end of the bar since the step is not deep. It may take several good blows with the hammer. I use a 2lb hammer. A rubber mallet would not be effective at all.
i got it in the end - i think i may not have properly disengaged the parking brake the first time i tried. Having left some penetrating oil in the holes over night, i found i was able to rotate the rotor slighly left and right, so realised the parking brake must still be holding it. Rookie mistake, but i got it off. Thanks!
