1985 QV Euro, Left-hand drive. I just want to double-check that I'm doing this right, before I break something. I'm rebuilding the CV joints on the passenger side, following Birdman's excellent tutorial. I'm at the point that I believe I need to remove the transaxle flange, so that a seal can be replaced. But, I can't get the flange off the gear shaft and gear box. It moves about 1/16th of an inch, then feels like it's hung up. Or to say differently, it feels like it's not supposed to come off... like there's something else holding it on. Pic attached, to show the thing I'm talking about. The car is in gear, btw. Tap tap tap gently with a small hammer along the edge of the flange on the back and spray some penetrant lube in the splines.
Dang, this is weird. It's not physically stuck on the shaft. I can slide the housing in and out a few mm easily... no effort at all, but then it just stops. Will try some PB oil and some gentle rubber mallet.
