Yes and still there will be no penalty for using "illegal equipment" even if it is really finally banned. What is the point of banning it in there first place. Sounds like spin Doctoring to me.

Read between the lines. When you go and ban something for doing something it doesn't do, then realise NOBODY agrees with you, then say ok you can use it we won't penalise you, what does that sound like? use your brain.

He's not a fool but he has shown poor judgment in this matter. If he were so certain that the dampers would be found to be illegal then he would not have agreed to let Renault use them without fear of disqualification before the appeal is heard. Instead, he would have told Renault that they can run the dampers but at their own risk, so if the appeals council finds that the damper does constitute an aero device and it is therefore illegal, then Renault would lose all drivers' and manufacturer's points for races run between now and the appeal hearing. I doubt he ever thought that the stewards at the German GP would find that the dampers are legal, but his explanation of how the dampers constitute an illegal aero device is questionable on it's very face and he has egg on his.

For the last time. I have no need to give you any source about anything. You are the last person i have to prove anything to. The way the whole debacle is being handled is proof enough. So you keep your head right up your butt where it always is and let the people with brains do the talking.

 

I don't know if there is a source that says "Charlie Whiting changed his mind", but to take the position that the dampers are, in fact, an illegal aero device that Renault could not use without running the risk of penalty which is why they did not run them in Germany, and then take the position that they could use the damper without risk of penalty until such time as the appeal is heard, seems like a change of his mind to me.

And Autosport is the source. Leave nuts, bolts, and all other forms of fasteners out of it.

It might be a change of mind. It might be a wrong decision. It will not be the first time the FIA interprets subjective rules the way they please.

But I agree that nuts have to be left out of this discussion. They are not very appealing as a source unless you are bernardo66.
