Renault reveals that some of its F1 teams are late with payments - F1 news - AUTOSPORT.com They aren't naming names, but its not hard to figure out who is the problem. Sent from my XT1055 using Tapatalk
Everyone seems to overlook that it states 'teams' in plural, not one of its teams, but 'teams' (also in article). If I am not misreading english, it would suggest to me that more than one team is not paying. What kind of agreement do they have e.g. with Red Bull? I would imagine that there is a performance clause, with certain consequences for not meeting those attached. While it is a straightforward conclusion to suspect Lotus for their previous (?) economic situation, it might be more/other teams? Just my few cents into the speculation...
Of the 4 teams supplied by Renault, I suspect that Lotus and Caterham are the ones with shaky finances. I cannot see Red Bull/STR falling into arrears, even if they are not happy with the power units supplied so far. In spite of Lopez reassurance and Maldonado's sponsorship, I think that Lotus is still borderline. Grosjean is still not paid regularly (according to interviews in the French press) but prefers not to talk about it. Caterham had a fall-out with Renault on their GT common project and Fernandes has signified his displeasure with Renault. I don't expect much from that team this year, if it survives at all...
Haha... BBC says RBR get free engines anyways and cites: Lotus trackside operations director Alan Permane said: "We are 100% up to date with our payment schedule." Toro Rosso team boss Franz Tost said: "As far as I'm aware, we've paid everything." Caterham team principal Cyril Abiteboul said: "It's a confidential issue but I'm happy since I'm on time to say that we are settled with invoices with Renault Sport F1."
Lotus and Caterham insist they are not behind on payments to Renault - F1 news - AUTOSPORT.com Lotus and Caterham insist they are not behind on payments to Renault By Dieter Rencken & Jonathan Noble Saturday, May 10th 2014, 10:15 GMT Renault customer Formula 1 teams Lotus and Caterham insist that they are up to date with their payments to the French car manufacturer. Following comments from Renault's F1 president Jean-Michel Jalinier that some teams had been late with paying for their 2014 engines, speculation had centred on its being the outfits from Enstone and Leafield. However, both teams insist that they are fully on course with their schedule. A Lotus spokesman told AUTOSPORT: "We have an agreement with Renault Sport F1 for the payment of our power unit for 2014. We are 100 per cent up to date with our agreement." Caterham team principal Cyril Abiteboul added: "It's a confidential issue but I'm happy, since I'm on time, to say that we are settled with invoices with Renault Sport F1." With Renault's other teams, Red Bull and Toro Rosso, owned by the wealthy energy drinks company it is unlikely that those outfits would have not been able to afford the bills either. It may be, though, that some outfits have previously been late with payments which has upset Renault.
Might also be that they have an agreement to pay at some point later, which could mean that they have not yet paid but are fulfilling the agreement? He could have stated "We have paid" and would with that curb any speculation, me thinks.
Never rely too hard on logic in F1. If someone owes you money you don't create unnessary ill will while the debt's outstanding. Once the money is in your pocket....
Well, yes. That is precisely what they said, and precisely what it means. What's wrong with that? Let's say for instance you take out a new car loan or a mortgage on a new home that calls for monthly payments. So long as you make those monthly payments, you are 100% up to date on your agreement. How would you react if you were up to date on your car payments, and then you saw in the press that the bank was calling you a deadbeat and blaming you for their lack of capital? I'm interested to see where this goes.
Well... When all else fails you bring in the knuckle-busters. In any case F1 is a gentlemen's sport. No room for hooligans or rogues.
Is it not Ron Dennis who called F1 the "piranha club " ? Or is it a quote from Bernie, who knows a thing or two about it ...
Both are gentlemen who come from upperclass backgrounds, right? Not as if they're ex-mechanics or used car salesmen. ( indicates irony.)
