I have just had my Timing Belt and Timing belt bearing change. After I got the car back. The performance is lost a lot. Not as punchy, and jumpy when take off. Top speed lost...
The car is Ferrari 308, 76, carb. Euro. I had it done at Ferrari dealer. The parts, both timing belt and bearing not O.M.E parts. But they fit the 308. I bought the belt at Italianparts.com and bearing (SFK) at Sodacoms.com. The mechinc mentioned that the bearing isn't O.M.E. I don't know if that the case. When I got the bearing, I use my hand and try to spin it, it can hardly move. Is that normal? What happen here? The bearing I used before change was O.M.E.. Is the bearing the problem?
    Please advise....

I'd trailer the car back to the mechanics (maybe another one?) ASAP. Do not drive that car.

If the tensioner bearing cannot turn freely then it will be putting high loads on the timing belt.

It sounds like you have a dud bearing ... although bearings do have to run in a bit to loosen fully, but this sort of bearing should have been okay to turn by hand. Are you sure you got exactly the same bearing. There are many different types of sealing options for otherwise identical bearings. Some sealing options increase the rolling friction a fair bit.

Good luck, but I am surprised you can feel the power loss ... but I would not have installed that bearing if you had any doubts.

    Thank you Pete,
I got the car back just last Saturday. I felt it right away that the car did not accelerate as it did before. I even got back pressure. I took it up for a top speed it did only 120mph and hardly move further. Before it reached 150 mph ok. i do not know if it's mechinic fault for install or belt off tooth. or the bearing too stiff.

The bearing being too stiff will not have that drastic effect on the performance of the car. I would suggest investigating if the timing was set correctly. If the cams are out of aligment then you will get this symptom. Also check to be sure your getting spark on both banks of the enigne. You never know if a coil wire has been left unpluged..or an ignition wire is on the wrong cylinder!!

In any case the Mechanic should not have installed a bearing that is not spinning correctly.

Sounds like timing is off; when I got my '82 GTSi it ran good but after new belts and proper timing (it was off 1 tooth when I got it) it ran GREAT.

As to belts/bearings, when I considered fixing my bad timing cover bearing (I oppted not and dumped the money pit instead) the shop I was talking to advised getting OEM belts and tensioners, as Ferrari will now warranty parts against failure; he knew of a customer who took his F-car to an independant who used OEM parts; bearing failed, belt broke....Ferrari covered the full rebuild price.

That doesn't sound right, but I hope it is true.

Tom is right, probably timing is incorrect or the engine is only running on 4 cylinders. One of my coil wires came loose on a drive home once, total loss of power and no punch. I pulled over, pushed the wire onto the coil firmly and that was that.

Timing is off. Either the cams or the ignition. Probably the ignition. It's messy to set (nice oil spill) and easy to screw up if he removed the distributor and replaced the seal and gasket (as he should have).
